Role Description The Accessibility Consultant - Documents is a remote contract role responsible for reviewing and remediating digital documents for accessibility. Day-to-day work includes evaluating documents in tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and learning management systems, identifying barriers, and applying fixes that conform to WCAG, Section 508, and PDF/UA guidelines. The consultant will provide clear recommendations, create or refine accessibility checklists, and document remediation steps to support audit trails and compliance reporting. This role also involves collaborating with client teams, answering accessibility questions, and contributing feedback to improve Inkable Docs’ workflows and AI-assisted solutions. The consultant is expected to manage their own schedule, meet project deadlines, and maintain high standards of accuracy and clarity.
Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in digital accessibility standards and practices, including WCAG, Section 508, and PDF/UA.
Hands-on experience working with documents in Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and common LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas, D2L Brightspace, Blackboard Ultra, Moodle).
Ability to identify document accessibility barriers and apply practical remediation techniques (e.g., headings, alt text, tables, reading order, color contrast, and tagging for PDFs).
Strong analytical, documentation, and written communication skills, with the ability to explain accessibility issues and solutions to non-specialist audiences.
Comfort working with accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies (such as screen readers) to validate document accessibility.
Previous experience as an accessibility consultant, instructional designer, or related role in education or organizations is preferred.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines with careful attention to detail.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CPACC, WAS, or other recognized accessibility credentials) or equivalent practical experience are a plus.
