Software Engineer II – Public Cloud Enablement
As a Software Engineer II at JPMorgan Chase, you are part of an agile team that works to enhance, design and deliver the software components to the firm's state-of-the-art technology products in a secure, stable and scalable way. Joining our Public Cloud team in Bournemouth, you will execute basic cloud-native software solutions through the design, development and troubleshooting of a single technical area within a business function, working primarily with Go (Golang) services running on Kubernetes, while gaining the skills and experience to grow within your role.
Job Responsibilities
Executes basic software solution, design, development, and technical troubleshooting
Writes secure and high-quality code using the syntax of at least one programming language with peer guidance
Interprets architecture and design representations as well as nonfunctional requirements to develop secure, stable software against a defined architecture
Supports the design, build, and operation of resilient, scalable services deployed to AWS in line with firm-wide public cloud standards, with peer guidance
Actively applies automation to reduce manual toil in the Software Development Life Cycle
Addresses basic code quality issues
Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation
Gathers, analyzes, and synthesizes basic data sets in service of technical troubleshooting and generating insights to drive continuous improvements
Breaks down routine technical tasks to troubleshoot and solve issues
Participates in software engineering communities of practice and events that explore new and emerging cloud technologies
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
Baseline knowledge of software, applications and technical processes within a given technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, etc.)
Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals, with a passion to build an inclusive and innovative culture
Demonstrated ability to code in one or more languages
Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, testing, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs.
Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations
Understanding of software skills such as business analysis, development, maintenance, and software improvement
Proficiency in developmental toolsets
Basic knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices
Basic understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
Exposure to cloud technologies, ideally AWS
Exposure to or interest in developing services in Go (Golang)
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration concepts (Docker, Kubernetes)
Exposure to AI-assisted developer tools and AI agents (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, or equivalent) to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and knowledge acquisition
Awareness of Infrastructure-as-Code tooling (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
Familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace)
