Lead Backend Engineer

2. About the Opportunity:
The Lead Backend Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and operating large-scale, high-throughput backend services that support mission-critical workloads. This role focuses on architecting core platforms that underpin other engineering teams'' work, emphasizing scalability, reliability, performance, and sound engineering practices. The position plays a key role in ensuring the systems meet demanding technical requirements and operational stability.
3. Responsibilities:
Design and develop distributed backend systems
Architect core platform components for scalability and reliability
Operate and maintain high-throughput backend services
Navigate trade-offs between consistency, availability, and latency
Mentor team members and document system designs
4. Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Six or more years of backend engineering experience with distributed systems
Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or similar languages
Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts including consensus, replication, and CAP theorem
Experience with high-throughput message systems such as Kafka
Experience operating systems at scale, including capacity planning and performance tuning
Proficient in SQL and experience with both relational and NoSQL databases
Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Strong debugging and root cause analysis skills
Excellent communication, documentation, and mentorship abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes-based platforms in production
Familiarity with service-mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd)
Knowledge of chaos engineering practices and tools
Contributions to open-source distributed systems projects
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
Salary range: $75,000 to $95,000 annually
