About the role
Our client is a well-established manufacturer and supplier of LED lighting and display solutions, based in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town. They are looking for an experienced Buyer to plan, select and buy goods so that operational needs are met, balancing price, quality and delivery and keeping supply continuous.
You will run local and foreign purchasing end to end, work closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, the warehouse and the finance team, and keep stock levels and pricing accurate on the inventory management system.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Supplier Management
Process, track and complete the purchase order process for foreign purchases
Maintain stock levels across various brands, retail client specifications and project-specific orders (foreign purchases)
Oversee stock levels on fast-moving stock for local purchases
Negotiate SLA and settlement discounts together with the Finance Manager
Liaise with the accounts department on deposits, balance payments and negotiated payment terms
Source specific products, new technology and products for specific client requests
Arrange for new samples to be brought in for review and pulled from stock for showroom display
Attend supplier visits and showroom views of the latest products, and brief the sales team
Inventory & Reporting
Check and manage stock on the inventory management system and resolve stock-level discrepancies with management
Keep the stock database and pricing up to date, and collate a detailed database of stock items
Produce monthly management reports on stock on hand (SOH), purchases and MOQ
Plan and capture stock takes together with the Warehouse Manager
Coordinate supplier collections and deliveries with the warehouse
Compliance & Product Information
Ensure all products meet the correct South African standards
Handle NRCS queries and LOA applications
Gather supplier information such as test reports, product data and IES files
Supply accurate product information to the graphic designer for catalogue pages and data sheets
Freight & Logistics
Plan and coordinate shipments with freight forwarders and shipping agents, including modes of transport and supplier paperwork
Manage and communicate ETAs in line with ordering and ETDs
Requirements
Minimum 3-5 years' proven experience as a Buyer
Good knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, commercial understanding and cost breakdown
Experience working closely with suppliers, including foreign purchasing and imports
Able to add value, reduce costs and contribute to business improvements
Sound knowledge of cost control and the ability to make sound decisions across multiple projects
Strong prioritisation and organisation skills, managing multiple tasks within set deadlines
Familiarity with inventory and process management to perform accurate calculations
Computer literate, with experience on an inventory management or ERP system
What will set you apart: working knowledge of NRCS / LOA processes, lighting or electrical product experience, and a sharp, detail-driven approach to cost and stock accuracy.
