About The Role
The Budget Execution Specialist is a vital member of the financial management team supporting federal facilities management programs. This role involves providing expert financial and budget execution support, ensuring the timely and compliant distribution, obligation, expenditure, reconciliation, and reporting of federal funds. The successful candidate will work closely with program managers, budget offices, acquisition teams, and financial stakeholders to facilitate the effective execution of annual operating budgets and related funding activities. This position requires a detail-oriented professional capable of analyzing financial data, preparing comprehensive reports, and supporting strategic financial planning. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful federal programs, ensuring financial operations align with federal regulations and policies. While primarily remote, candidates are preferred to work from Albuquerque, NM, or Reston, VA, subject to operational needs and security considerations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered
Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting federal budget execution, financial management, or related financial operations
Experience working with federal appropriated funds, including obligations, expenditures, and fund tracking
Proficiency in preparing financial reports, analyses, and management briefings
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to obtain and maintain federal suitability and background clearance
U.S. citizenship required
Preferred qualifications include experience with the Department of the Interior (DOI), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), or Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), familiarity with FBMS, federal acquisition processes, and monitoring Undelivered Orders (UDO).
Responsibilities
Execute and monitor budget activities, including obligations, expenditures, allocations, and fund distributions
Maintain and update operating plans, spend plans, and financial tracking reports to ensure accurate financial management
Support reconciliation and closeout activities related to Undelivered Orders (UDO)
Assist with financial management activities involving contracts, agreements, and interagency funding actions
Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial reports for leadership review and decision-making
Analyze budget execution data, identify potential risks, and recommend corrective actions
Coordinate with acquisition, budget, finance, and program offices to facilitate funding actions
Support budget formulation and execution activities throughout the fiscal year
Ensure compliance with federal financial management policies and procedures
Contribute to strategic financial planning, cost estimating, and lifecycle budgeting efforts
