About The Role
As a System Engineer Cloud Platform (m/w/d) specializing in OpenStack and VMware, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and developing our multi-tenant cloud infrastructure. This position is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere within Germany, offering flexibility and work-life balance. Your primary responsibility will be to operate and optimize our cloud platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. You will manage the deployment of customer-specific environments, oversee platform lifecycle management, and support migration projects. Depending on your experience, the role can be tailored from an entry-level position to a senior-level position, providing opportunities for growth and increased responsibility.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in IT and cloud infrastructure, with relevant qualifications such as an IT apprenticeship (e.g., Fachinformatiker Systemintegration), a degree in computer science, or equivalent experience. Experience in managing cloud or virtualization platforms like OpenStack and VMware vSphere/vCenter/ESXi is essential. Strong knowledge of network technologies—including TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, routing, and firewalls—as well as storage solutions such as SAN and NAS, is required. Proficiency in Linux and Windows server administration, along with basic understanding of backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik) and monitoring tools (CheckMK, Prometheus), is also necessary. Good communication skills in German, both written and spoken, are crucial, especially for customer interactions and documentation. For senior roles, additional experience in multi-tenant platform management, automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or PowerCLI, and familiarity with ITIL processes are highly desirable.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain multi-tenant cloud platforms based on OpenStack and VMware at various data center locations.
Design, implement, and integrate network, firewall, storage, and compute components into existing platform landscapes.
Manage the lifecycle of platform components, including monitoring, patching, firmware updates, and configuration changes.
Provision and configure customer-specific environments within shared cloud platforms, including network segments, resources, and backup scopes.
Execute migrations into the shared cloud environment, documenting processes and configurations thoroughly.
Ensure compliance with customer SLAs, backup objectives, and security policies.
Operate and monitor central backup solutions such as Veeam, Commvault, and Rubrik.
Participate in incident, change, and problem management processes on both client and platform levels.
Support hosting operations, including remote hands and monitoring of customer-owned hardware.
Utilize monitoring and event management tools to meet operational standards and SLAs.
Participate in team on-call rotations to provide after-hours support.
Automate recurring operational tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and system configurations.
