MaxiCare is an AI native EMR platform built for operators of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. The tagline says it plainly: the EMR that thinks. We are an early stage company building product alongside our first cohort of facility partners. The team is small and the work is real. What we build decides whether a nurse spends the shift charting or caring for residents, and whether an operator gets paid for care already delivered.
We're hiring a User Experience Designer to make MaxiCare work better, look better, and feel better for the people who use it every day. A nurse at the start of a double shift. An administrator watching census. A billing lead chasing a claim before month end. In healthcare the job is information: taking it in, making sense of it, and acting on it. We want a designer who clears out the noise, strips each screen to what matters, and leaves the user with a clear next step. Visual craft still counts, in service of the work.

Responsibilities
Product Experience and Information Design
Own how MaxiCare works, looks, and feels, from the first login to the hundredth charting session of the week
Decide what shows up on each screen, in what order, and what stays out of sight until someone asks for it
Design for the decision the user has to make, not the full data set behind it
Research and Workflows
Spend time with nurses, administrators, MDS coordinators, and billing staff to learn how they really work
Map admission, charting, medication administration, care planning, and billing into flows and interactive prototypes
Design System and Accessibility
Own typography, color, iconography, spacing, and layout, and maintain the MaxiCare design system in Figma
Design to WCAG 2.2 AA, including the dim light of a nursing station at 3 a.m.
Run usability testing and turn what it finds into fixes
Handoff and Measurement
Deliver specs and annotated designs engineers can build from without guessing, and review what ships
Track time on task, error rates, clicks per workflow, adoption, and satisfaction to decide what to fix next
Education
A four year college degree from an accredited institution, ideally in design, human computer interaction, or a related field.
Experience
Five or more years of UX or product design at a product company or product development firm, with shipped software to show for it
Hands on SaaS design across both B2B and B2C products
A portfolio that shows your process: the problem, the research, the options, the choice, and what happened after launch
Expert Figma, including components, variants, auto layout, and prototyping, plus Photoshop and Illustrator
A keen eye for type and color on screen, and why legibility matters to a nurse scanning a long resident list
Usability testing and WCAG experience, with accessibility built in from the start
Proven skill at simplifying data heavy interfaces
Work inside agile teams, handing off to engineers and weighing tradeoffs against what can ship this sprint
Strong written and verbal communication, and daily comfort with AI tools, Anthropic Claude in particular
U.S. citizen. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Preferred
Healthcare product design, especially EMR, EHR, or clinical workflow software
Design for skilled nursing, long term care, or other shift based clinical settings
Experience designing AI assisted features people can read, trust, and act on
Familiarity with HIPAA and privacy in healthcare products
Building a design system from scratch at an early stage company
Enough HTML, CSS, and TypeScript to talk implementation with engineers
Native English, since you'll write interface copy and lead research sessions where wording matters
Travel
As requested and needed, including occasional on site team meetings where we work through product design and architecture strategy together. Expect periodic facility visits for user research as well, and some trips may come up on short notice.
