Job Profile
The Assistant Manager – Automotive Design will be responsible for driving automotive design projects from research and concept development through visualization, modelling and design development. The role will involve working closely with clients, internal design teams, engineering and prototyping teams to deliver high-quality and innovative design solutions.
The candidate should have a strong understanding of automotive design, excellent creative and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to take ownership of projects while supporting and mentoring junior designers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage multiple automotive design projects, ensuring timely delivery and quality of design output.
Work on exterior, interior and component design projects for 2, 3, 4-wheelers and commercial vehicles.
Understand project briefs and translate them into strong design concepts and design directions.
Drive the complete design process including research, benchmarking, trend mapping, ideation, mood boards, concept development, renders, 3D modelling and presentations.
Create and review high-quality 2D and 3D visualizations and ensure design intent is maintained throughout the project.
Work closely with engineering, prototyping and other cross-functional teams for design development and execution.
Interact with clients, understand requirements and present design concepts and project progress effectively.
Take ownership of project timelines, deliverables and documentation.
Guide and mentor junior designers and support the team in developing strong design solutions.
Stay updated with emerging automotive trends, materials, technologies and manufacturing processes.
Participate in client pitches and presentations and contribute to new business opportunities.
Maintain project records, design documentation and regular project updates.
Skills Required
Strong knowledge of automotive design and product development.
Excellent hand sketching and concept development skills.
Strong knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Good knowledge of Alias / Blender or other 3D modelling software.
Strong visualization skills with KeyShot or equivalent rendering software.
Good understanding of surfacing and 3D modelling.
Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, materials and detailing.
Strong understanding of proportions, aesthetics and design detailing.
Good project management and time-management skills.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Client handling and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Open-minded team player with the ability to work independently.
Strong ownership, creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
