2. About the Opportunity:
The Sr. Software Engineer (Tech Lead) is a senior technical role responsible for driving the technical success of a delivery team. The position involves hands-on coding, problem-solving, and shaping technical direction to deliver high-quality software that supports nonprofit clients. This role also leads efforts to integrate AI tools and automation to enhance engineering productivity and outcomes.
3. Responsibilities:
Own the team’s technical outcomes, ensuring code quality, reliability, maintainability, and security.
Lead technical direction and design within the team’s domain and collaborate with senior architects on broader decisions.
Mentor engineers, provide technical feedback, and foster skill development.
Champion the use of AI-driven engineering tools and identify automation opportunities to improve workflows.
Balance feature delivery with addressing technical debt, architectural risks, and performance concerns.
Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues using debugging and observability tools.
Ensure quality through automated testing, code reviews, and continuous feedback.
4. Requirements:
Strong hands-on experience building and shipping production software.
Deep proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript, including Node.js, Express, and React.
Experience with relational data modeling, SQL (PostgreSQL), REST API design, asynchronous programming, automated testing, and production debugging.
Experience modernizing legacy systems incrementally.
Ability to build and maintain integrations with attention to correctness and conflict handling.
Skilled in making pragmatic architectural decisions balancing scalability, reliability, and delivery speed.
Experience as a senior technical engineer or technical lead influencing team direction.
Ability to handle ambiguous problems, make sound tradeoffs, and drive implementation.
Ownership mindset focused on quality and long-term maintainability.
Hands-on fluency with AI development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
Experience applying AI tools in coding, debugging, research, and problem-solving.
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
