Project Manager, Tax Compliance

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Project Manager, Tax Compliance based in the United States.
The Project Manager, Tax Compliance will oversee the end-to-end delivery of complex, multi-jurisdiction voluntary compliance engagements. This role is responsible for coordinating timelines, deliverables, client communication, and project governance while protecting service quality and compliance outcomes. As a key contributor within Client Services, you will manage multiple concurrent client portfolios and ensure projects remain on schedule, within scope, and aligned with agreed service levels. You will work closely with tax professionals, data consultants, state tax authorities, account teams, and sales partners to resolve issues and maintain smooth execution. The position also emphasizes operational excellence, using AI and automation tools to improve productivity, transparency, and communication. Success requires strong organization, client management skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to solving project challenges
Accountabilities
Lead end-to-end planning, execution, monitoring, and closure for assigned multi-jurisdiction client projects, maintaining strong project discipline and targeting 98–100% on-time milestone and service-level performance.
Manage client relationships and project governance with professionalism, establishing clear communication rhythms, structured meeting agendas, documented follow-ups, and consistent expectations throughout the engagement lifecycle.
Maintain project scope and customer accountability by ensuring clients provide required transactional data, taxability confirmations, reviews, and other inputs on schedule, while keeping project management focused on coordination rather than data preparation.
Maintain accurate, real-time project documentation across Salesforce, Certinia, Google Drive, and other approved systems, including weekly task updates, risk logs, project statuses, and audit-ready customer communications.
Coordinate with Data Consultants, Tax Analysts, State Tax Authorities, Customer Account Managers, Sales, and other stakeholders to resolve escalations, remove delivery obstacles, and maintain seamless execution across jurisdictions.
Use approved AI and productivity tools to improve everyday project operations, including drafting client communications, summarizing meetings, organizing action items, and consolidating project status information.
Identify recurring workflow bottlenecks and proactively recommend automation, macros, tools, or process improvements that can increase efficiency, transparency, and delivery quality.
Support user acceptance testing, validation, and feedback activities for new or updated operational tools and workflows before broader implementation.
Continuously improve and document standard operating procedures, project kickoff materials, status reporting frameworks, and other resources that strengthen consistency across project delivery.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Finance, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 3 years of professional experience in project management, client service delivery, professional services coordination, or a comparable environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, establish timelines, track deliverables, coordinate stakeholders, identify risks, and persistently resolve issues to keep projects moving forward.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience managing client and cross-functional relationships, facilitating structured meetings, documenting decisions, and clearly communicating project scope and responsibilities.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management abilities, with exceptional attention to detail, documentation, follow-through, and recordkeeping.
Comfortable using standard business productivity tools such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, as well as enterprise AI applications for tasks such as summarization, drafting, organization, and workflow support.
Willingness to provide constructive feedback, identify opportunities for operational improvement, and participate in testing and validation of new tools and processes.
Ability to work effectively across multiple teams and maintain a professional, solutions-oriented approach when managing competing priorities, escalations, and client expectations.
Benefits
Competitive base compensation with location-based ranges:
Colorado: $88,000–$140,000 annually.
Washington: $88,000–$155,700 annually.
California: $88,000–$170,300 annually.
New York City: $97,100–$170,300 annually.
Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, market conditions, and business considerations.
Eligibility for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, subject to the applicable plan and role.
