2. About the Opportunity:
The Staff Software Engineer, Maps Services is responsible for setting the technical direction of the geospatial platform that supports multiple products relying on location data. This role involves building and scaling systems for map data ingestion, processing, and API development to enable accurate and reliable location-aware features. The position contributes foundational infrastructure that impacts a wide range of teams and products within the organization.
3. Responsibilities:
Guide the technical strategy of the Maps team
Develop geospatial systems and integrations foundational to various products
Scale platform solutions to handle real-time data storage, query, and computation
Consolidate geospatial solutions for broader platform-wide use
Create self-service tools for customers to access and customize data
Elevate technical standards through code reviews, design input, and mentorship
Collaborate with engineering leadership on strategic technical decisions
Represent the organization externally in relevant forums and communities
4. Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
Over 8 years of software development experience including at least 2 years in a technical leadership or architect role
Strong programming and design skills
Minimum 4 years working with large-scale distributed systems
Minimum 4 years leading technical projects involving multiple teams
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
Annual base salary range: $162,400 to $290,000 USD
Eligible for initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities based on performance
Compensation includes base salary, performance-based bonuses, and equity components
