The Company
Our client is a fast-growing cybersecurity startup based in Seattle, Washington, that is transforming how security teams manage vulnerability exploitability. By leveraging AI-driven intelligence, their platform evaluates whether specific vulnerabilities are actually exploitable in a customer's environment, reducing noise from standard vulnerability scanners.
Role Overview
As a Core AI/ML Software Engineer, you will play a central role in building the AI systems behind our client's cybersecurity platform. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will build pipelines that process unstructured security intelligence, design agentic AI workflows for automated exploitability assessments, and develop systems to evaluate and improve model performance.
This role sits at the intersection of NLP, applied machine learning, agentic AI, and software engineering. You will join a small team where your work will directly influence the core product.
Key Responsibilities
Build pipelines that process open-source security intelligence, including advisories, NVD data, and vendor feeds, extracting structured exploitation conditions from unstructured text.
Design and ship agentic workflows that evaluate whether a CVE is actually exploitable against a customer's specific resource configuration.
Build and iterate on LLM evaluation systems to measure and improve the quality of generated exploitation conditions and agent verdicts.
Develop ML models, including classifiers and NLP pipelines, that help ground and constrain LLM output as real-world telemetry accumulates.
Own exploratory R&D end-to-end, moving from scoping ambiguous problems to developing and shipping production-ready solutions.
Collaborate closely with the engineering team to productize models and deploy AI/ML workflows into production.
Qualifications
Typically 8 to 12 years of experience as a senior software engineer, staff engineer, or AI/ML engineer.
Proven track record of building production systems that process large-scale unstructured text and extract structured signals from it through NLP, information extraction, LLM pipelines, or similar approaches.
Strong Python fluency, with the ability to independently build end-to-end AI/ML and agentic workflows using LLM APIs and SDKs.
Strong foundation in pre-LLM machine learning, particularly NLP, text classification, recommendation systems, or similar applied ML work, combined with more recent experience building LLM and agentic AI systems.
Hands-on experience developing and working with ML models using Python-based frameworks such as PyTorch, scikit-learn, or TensorFlow.
Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced startup environment and independently take ambiguous technical problems from exploration through implementation.
Preference for candidates based outside major East Coast and West Coast markets; candidates in higher-cost markets may also be considered depending on experience and compensation expectations.
Open to light travel, roughly once per quarter, for team meetups in Seattle, the Bay Area, or at conferences.
