The Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation, and Human Services is actively expanding their Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program and seeking candidates for two Teaching Assistant Professor positions. These grant-funded, full-time, 9-month academic year positions, with opportunity for summer work/teaching, may begin as soon as May 2027. Faculty in these positions will initially give primary focus to curriculum development and CACREP accreditation alignment to assist in the development of an online part-time CMHC track. They will also teach within the current CMHC program. Upon the successful launch of the part-time online program, the faculty responsibilities will transition to a four-four teaching load along with opportunities for service and scholarship responsibilities during the academic year with the opportunity for summer teaching for the remainder of the grant.
These positions are reviewed annually with the intention to renew, contingent on grant funding, to September 2031. At the culmination of grant funding, and depending on program success, the faculty may be eligible to apply for a tenure-track position, with potential for three years applied towards promotion and tenure, through the standard recruitment process.
A successful candidate will be passionate about program and curriculum development, committed to promoting the development of an equitable and inclusive learning environment, and familiar with CACREP accreditation processes. The Department supports a variety of contemporary teaching modalities including in-person, blended, and distance learning environments.
This position is supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through a subaward as part of a financial assistance award made to the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum/Required
MA/MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or related field
Enrolled in a PhD Counseling Education & Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program (not applicable if PhD already obtained, see highly desired/preferred qualifications
Licensed or license-eligible as a licensed professional counselor in the state of Wisconsin
Highly Desired/Preferred
PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program
Two years’ clinical experience post-graduation from MS/MA counseling program
Evidence of successfully teaching in person and online
Demonstrated ability to teach CMHC or closely related courses
Familiarity with curriculum development
Evidence of meaningful involvement in at least one CACREP accreditation/re-accreditation process
Ability to collaborate and develop partnerships across campus and in the community
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the development of the CMHC curriculum and program for online instruction
Work closely with involved stakeholders to ensure the CMHC curriculum and program meet CACREP standards
Engage in clinical practicum and internship site recruitment
Teach in-person and/or online CMHC or related courses (e.g., Orientation to CMHC, Group Dynamics, Testing and Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment, etc.)
Provide in-person and remote clinical supervision
Uphold an environment that supports a culture of respect, civility, and collegiality
Actively participate in professional counseling organizations such as ACA, ACES, etc.
Provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning. This includes contributing to academic program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff.
