Mechanical Design Checker

6-month job (Travel to Novi, MI office one day a week. Approved travel expenses will be reimbursed).
Core Responsibilities:
Primary work responsibility is to create red-line markup corrections of mechanical drawings of industrial machines, automation systems or material handling equipment to ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance. This requires a strong working knowledge of machine design and international drafting standards including ISO, ANSI/ASME, and MIL specs. It also requires general knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, welding, forging, cast and machining processes.
Practical application of GD&T is required. A secondary responsibility is to create assembly and detail drawings In Autodesk Inventor.
Strong working proficiency of national and international drafting standards and local company standards for machine design and automation.
Knowledge of mechanical concepts and design of functional machines & tooling based on specifications and cycle times.
Able to perform and document basic calculations to verify design.
Create “best practices” document to assist designers and engineers to use as a guide to reduce common mistakes and re-work.
Check drawings for fit, tolerance and manufacturability of sheet metal, weldments, forging, casting, and machined parts and assemblies.
Familiar with common design/documentation data management and change processes.
Job Requirements:
7-10 years’ experience in industrial machine design, automation systems, conveyors, packaging, material handling, mining, or heavy industrial equipment design.
Must be proficient in 3D Mechanical CAD applications (Inventor (preferred), Solidworks, Creo, Solid Edge, Catia, NX, AutoCAD). Note: some production use of Inventor is required
Must have a practical understanding of tolerances, materials, fasteners, and fabrication as well as training and/or certification in G.D.& T
Strong written and communication skills
Knowledge of drafting standard specifications, including MIL-STD-31000, MIL-STD-1472, ANSI Y14.5, ISO 128 (series), 1101, 5456 (series)…
