Position Summary:
We currently have an opening position as a Research Assistant 2 (RA2) working with Prof. Gaskin.
Responsibilities:
Literature review of numerical models of river confluence mixing.- Investigation of the parameters affecting the mixing layer in the depth averaged river model (TELEMAC)
Field study to obtain velocity data in a profile across the mixing layer (ADV)
Validation of numerical model/identification of modelling constraints
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Masters of Engineering in Civil Engineering in the area of hydraulics or Integrated Water Resources Management with an internship project in hydraulics.
B.Eng. in Civil Engineering.
Knowledge of depth averaged modelling of river flows (TELEMAC), knowledge of GIS.
Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:
Ability to use scientific instruments and machines
Ability to apply critical thinking to laboratory procedures.
Ability to observe, collect, and record data
Ability to provide guidance and to work alongside other research assistants and established academic leaders
Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4.
