Design Director

Role Description The Design Director is a part-time, remote role responsible for leading and overseeing design initiatives across branding, product, and architectural projects. In this role, the Design Director develops and maintains the overall design vision, ensuring consistency with institutional goals and audience needs. Day-to-day tasks include managing design processes, reviewing and refining visual concepts, guiding the creation of digital and print materials, and coordinating with academic and administrative teams on design-related requirements. The Design Director is expected to provide strategic design direction, supervise design documentation such as construction drawings, and ensure that all deliverables meet quality, usability, and accessibility standards. This role involves mentoring design contributors, aligning design work with institutional identity, and supporting cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong Design Management skills, including project leadership, coordination of design workflows, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Candidates should possess expertise in Branding, with experience developing and maintaining visual identity systems and brand guidelines.
Candidates should possess skills in Architecture and Construction Drawings, with the ability to interpret, review, and guide design documentation for built environments.
Candidates should possess experience in Product Design, including user-centered design practices and translating requirements into clear design solutions.
Candidates should ideally have proficiency with design and visualization tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, CAD software) and familiarity with accessibility and usability standards.
Relevant academic background in Design, Architecture, Visual Communication, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and remote collaboration skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback and design direction.
Experience in an educational or institutional environment is beneficial, along with a portfolio demonstrating strategic and hands-on design work.
