Job Description:
This recruitment will be used to fill four part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) MU Custodial Student Assistant for the Memorial Union organization at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Memorial Union (MU) supports the University mission by creating community centered inclusive facilities and environments, providing formal and informal gathering spaces that build meaningful relationships. We are a student-centered organization that fosters student engagement through employment and engages in shared decision making with the Student Advisory Board. The Memorial Union staff value service, inclusion, and accountability.
Custodial Assistants support the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of MU facilities and play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment for all.
Their efforts are coordinated daily by Custodial Coordinators, Help Desk, and working alongside Full-Time Custodians. at the Memorial Union, SEC, Cultural Centers & Child Care Centers.
The MU Building Services Team is looking for Custodial Assistants who are interested in maintaining clean spaces and providing good service to the buildings and programs we support.
Position Duties:
Custodial Assistants are trained to:
Manage trash and recycle
Vacuum and clean carpet
Sweep, mop and scrub hard floors
Refill supplies
Support daily operations
Recovery of meeting rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, restrooms and common spaces around our facilities.
Pull trash, sweep, mop, vacuum, disinfect and clean public spaces, corridors, kitchens, event spaces and restrooms.
Work alongside full-time Custodians performing cleaning tasks that include, but are not limited to, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, wiping off tables, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning glass, dusting, emptying trash/recycling/compost, etc.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience cleaning.
Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
Working Conditions/Schedule:• Custodial Assistants are out and about their entire shift. Working to maintain clean and safe spaces around the MU Org. They work in dining rooms, corridors, meeting rooms, bathrooms, loading docks and occasionally outdoors supporting events and exterior trash collection.
• We fill shifts every day of the week 7am - 11pm and will work around class schedules as appropriate. Anticipate 6 - 12 regularly scheduled hours per week for new hire(s) with opportunity for more hours picking up available Trades and Dropped shifts.
• New Custodial Assistants start at $16.40 per hr with opportunity for increase upon completed training
