Job Description:
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) MU BLDS Maintenance Student Assistant for the Memorial Union organization at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Memorial Union (MU) supports the University mission by creating community centered inclusive facilities and environments, providing formal and informal gathering spaces that build meaningful relationships. Maintenance Assistants support the Memorial Union in meeting the needs of the day behind the scenes in Building Services.
They are coordinated by the Help Desk and support the Trades (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrician, Locksmith, Painter, etc.) in carrying out their Planned, Scheduled, Preventative and Corrective Maintenance at the Memorial Union, SEC, Cultural Centers & Child Care Centers.
The MU Building Services Team is looking for Maintenance Assistants who are interested in learning more about building systems, general maintenance and repair and good customer service to the buildings and programs we support.
MU Maintenance Assistants support daily Operations at the MU and 15 other buildings / cafe's we support. We're looking for student staff who are interested in working alongside Trades staff (Plumber, HVAC, Refrigeration, Locksmith, Painter) to carry the needs of the day. Work involves occasional use of ladders, dump runs with pickup truck, surplus deliveries, warehouse & shop cleanup, office furniture moves, light-bulb changes, preventive maintenance, and facilities project support.
Position Duties:
Staff are trained to:
Change filters on HVAC equipment
Install office,
Building & program furniture and fixtures,
Relamp light fixtures
Support warehouse & surplus efforts
Other assigned work that supports Trades staff working to provide Facilities Services to 15 cafe’s and kitchens, 6 Culture Centers, and general support of 300k s/f of Student Fee supported spaces.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Required Qualifications:
Experience working with hand-tools, troubleshooting and making repairs, and/or moving furniture, fixtures & equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience performing Preventive Maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and custodial / shop equipment
Previous experience working among Trades Staff
Previous experience troubleshooting mechanical failures on equipment or fixtures
Valid Driver’s License (to drive Shop Trucks & Golf Cart)
Working Conditions/Schedule:• Maintenance Assistants work on ladders, rooftops, basements, cafes, bathrooms, loading docks and all points in-between. Staff can expect to occasionally move furniture and fixtures, haul pallets and scrap metal, and provide cleaning support in our workspaces.
• We fill shifts across the M-F workday 7am-5pm and will work around class schedules as appropriate. Anticipate 6-12 regularly scheduled hours per week for new hire(s)
• New Maint Assistants start at $16.40 per hr with opportunity for increase upon completed training
