Sr Product Development Engineer

The Opportunity:
This position is a focused, technical engineering role responsible for supporting and helping to drive technical product innovation and the development of creative new product concepts into manufacturable solutions. This position also provides project support to more senior engineers acting as mentors to help gain experience. This position serves as the focal point for driving technical engineering solutions on new product concepts to ensure financial targets, schedule, and adherence to specified safety and quality standards. The position also drives brand-level value engineering and advanced product quality planning. The job role serves as a technical engineering liaison with Operations and collaborates with the cross-functional New Product Development Team to support efficient flow of new product concepts through the new product development lifecycles.
What Your Impact Will Be:
Provides feedback to Design and PMs during initial concept stages to determine feasibility of planned toy.
Assists with the development of new mechanisms to achieve toy functionality goals. Assists with the creation of breadboard models as needed.
Creation of engineering BOM.
Point of contact with development houses, tooling and plants, providing design guidance, facilitated as needed by Program Execution teams.
Assists in translating design vision for toys into technical specifications that can be passed on to development houses, tooling and plants.
Assists in definition of product function through functional specification.
Performs routine engineering activities related to various processes in product development.
What We’re Looking For:
BA/BS degree in an Engineering discipline preferred, or equivalent work experience.
4+ years of experience in the toys or consumer goods industry.
Fundamental understanding of common engineering principles and practices.
General understanding of toys including automation, tooling, materials, molding requirements, code release, logistics, robotics and sound.
General knowledge of plastic production processes and assembly techniques for plastic product.
Thinking is guided by diversified procedures and specialized standards.
Through prior exposure or experience, able to evaluate multiple-choice situations and apply the appropriate choice.
Knowledge of various raw materials, textiles, plastics and manufacturing processes.
Experience and practice in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or Creo.
Working knowledge of FEA. Able to read and understand results.
Understanding of statistics and probabilities.
Awareness of toy industry norms and regulations, including ASTM and ISO.
