Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Django)

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Python and Django to join a distributed engineering team building and evolving a large-scale, multi-tenant platform.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Design, build, and maintain backend services across the platform.
Develop scalable applications using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.
Build and maintain REST APIs, integrations, and asynchronous processing workflows.
Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, and S3 as part of the core application platform.
Deploy and operate containerized applications using Kubernetes and AWS EKS.
Own deployments and contribute to GitOps workflows and deployment automation.
Monitor and troubleshoot production systems across application, database, queue, container, and cloud infrastructure layers.
Improve observability and system monitoring to proactively identify and resolve issues.
Participate in architectural decisions related to scalability, resilience, performance, and security.
Review code and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
Identify and address technical debt where it has a meaningful impact on the platform.
Take ownership of features and technical changes throughout their complete lifecycle.
Use production insights and recurring issues to drive platform improvements.
Document technical decisions, solutions, and learnings for the wider engineering team.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
Strong commercial experience as a Backend Engineer or Software Engineer.
Advanced proficiency in Python.
Strong hands-on experience with Django and Django REST Framework.
Solid experience with PostgreSQL and Redis.
Experience building and maintaining REST APIs and integrations.
Experience with asynchronous processing and task queues.
Experience working with object storage such as Amazon S3.
Meaningful production experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications.
Experience with AWS EKS or similar Kubernetes environments.
Experience with Kubernetes deployments, services, configuration, secrets, resource management, and production troubleshooting.
Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with GitOps workflows, infrastructure as code, reproducible environments, and deployment automation.
Strong understanding of production engineering, system reliability, and troubleshooting.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical initiatives.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Fluent English, both written and spoken.
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with Go.
Experience with Docker Swarm.
Experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.
Advanced PostgreSQL performance optimization experience.
Experience with message brokers and asynchronous communication patterns.
Experience with observability platforms and tooling.
Experience with OpenTelemetry.
Experience working with remotely deployed hardware, fleet management, edge computing, or real-time messaging.
Experience using AI coding tools effectively as part of the software development workflow.
