Senior Hydraulic Systems Engineer
We are looking for a highly experienced Hydraulic Systems Engineer to take end-to-end technical ownership of the complete hydraulic system for an industrial machinery development project.
The engineer will be responsible for concept, system architecture, engineering calculations, circuit design, component selection, detailed design, development, testing, commissioning and final validation.
Technical Responsibility
Complete hydraulic system including:
Hydraulic circuit and system architecture
Pump, motor and power-pack sizing
Hydraulic cylinders and actuators — force, speed, stroke, pressure, buckling and life
Directional, pressure, flow, proportional and servo valves
Valve sizing and response characteristics
Manifold / HIC design
Hydraulic oil, reservoir and tank sizing
Filters, filtration and contamination control
Coolers / heat exchangers and thermal management
Accumulators where required
Pipes, tubes, hoses, fittings and routing
Seals, guides and leakage control
Sensors, feedback and hydraulic instrumentation
Pressure, flow, force and position control
Engineering & Calculation
The engineer must be capable of independently performing and validating:
Pressure, flow, force, torque, speed and power calculations
Pump displacement and motor sizing
Cylinder sizing and stability calculations
Valve and manifold flow calculations
Pressure-drop calculations
Line / hose sizing
Hydraulic efficiency and power-loss calculations
Oil heating and cooling-load calculations
Reservoir and filtration sizing
Dynamic and transient hydraulic behaviour
Pressure spikes, hydraulic shock and pulsation
Inertia and load effects
Start/stop acceleration and deceleration
Smooth motion and jerk control
Multi-cylinder operation, synchronization and flow sharing
Design & Development
The engineer should be capable of developing simple, robust, Cost efficient and reliable hydraulic solutions, with minimum unnecessary components and complexity.
Strong practical understanding is required of:
Proportional / Directional hydraulic control
Closed-loop hydraulic control
Load holding and safety
Pressure and flow regulation
Smooth cylinder acceleration/deceleration
Position and force control
Hydraulic shock reduction
Leakage prevention
Noise and vibration/pulsation control
Thermal management
Contamination control
Component life and reliability
Product Engineering
The engineer will also be responsible for:
DFM / DFA
DFMEA and failure-mode analysis
Tolerance and fit considerations
Reliability and durability
Maintenance and serviceability
Accessibility of components
Hose and piping maintainability
Replacement of wear/sealing components
Failure prevention and fail-safe design
Standardization and spare-parts considerations
Cost and manufacturability optimization
Required Experience
8–10+ years of relevant hydraulic engineering experience preferred.
Most importantly, the candidate must have personally designed, developed and commissioned complete hydraulic systems, not merely selected components or prepared hydraulic drawings.
Experience with industrial machinery, heavy equipment, construction/off-highway equipment, presses, automation or other high-duty hydraulic systems is preferred.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate previous projects with:
Complete hydraulic circuit/system design
Engineering calculations
Component and valve selection
Cylinder design
Manifold/piping design
Prototype development
Testing and commissioning
Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
Design optimization
We are looking for an engineer with strong hydraulic fundamentals, practical machine experience, engineering judgement and complete system-level ownership.
