Production Designer

Role Description
The Production Designer will be responsible for developing and executing the overall visual world of films and short films produced by Bose Works. The role involves interpreting scripts, understanding the director's creative vision, and translating narrative requirements into cohesive environments, sets, props, color palettes, textures, and visual styles.
The Production Designer will work closely with the Director, Director of Photography, Producer, Art Department, Costume Department, and other key creative teams throughout pre-production and filming. Responsibilities include visual research, concept development, mood boards, look references, set and location design, prop styling, spatial planning, and preparation of production design documents.
The role will also involve coordinating with set designers, fabricators, prop teams, locations, vendors, and other production departments to ensure that the designed environments are executed accurately and within the project's creative and practical requirements.
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of cinematic visual storytelling and the ability to create believable, distinctive, and narratively relevant environments for film.
Key Responsibilities
Develop the overall visual concept and production design language for films and short films.
Read and interpret scripts to identify environmental, spatial, historical, cultural, and character-related design requirements.
Develop mood boards, visual references, concept presentations, color palettes, material references, and design directions.
Design sets, locations, interiors, exteriors, props, signage, and other visual elements required for the film.
Collaborate closely with the Director and Director of Photography to establish the visual identity and atmosphere of each project.
Conduct location research, visual surveys, and design feasibility assessments.
Prepare sketches, layouts, references, elevations, set plans, and other production design documentation as required.
Work with the Art Department, set designers, prop teams, fabricators, and vendors to execute designs on set.
Source and develop props, furniture, materials, textures, and set-dressing elements appropriate to the story.
Maintain visual continuity and consistency throughout the production.
Consider camera framing, lighting, movement, blocking, and cinematography while designing environments.
Balance creative requirements with production budgets, available resources, locations, schedules, and practical constraints.
Supervise the implementation of production design during set preparation and filming.
Research period, cultural, architectural, geographical, and thematic references when required by the project.
Explore new tools, technologies, and workflows that can improve the production design process, including digital visualization and emerging filmmaking technologies.
