He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
As a Microbiologist, you will be a trusted authority on water quality, providing assurance that enhances public & environmental health. Your mahi will largely focus on performing standard water microbiology methods on samples from various sources, including municipal drinking water supplies, swimming pools, lakes, and beaches, and wastewater treatment facilities.
Day to day you can expect to work on:
Recording and reporting test results accurately and in a timely manner
Preparing media/reagents
Quality control and quality assurance, including resolution of quality cases and internal and external audits
Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
Supporting continuous improvement efforts by improving laboratory processes, implementing new methods and training other team members.
The role is Monday – Friday, 9-5.30pm. The occasional weekend work is required, 1 weekend every 3 weeks).

To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field, with experience in a IANZ accredited routine testing laboratory.
We will also be looking for proven experience with:
A range of microbiology techniques including bacterial culturing, molecular biology, microscopy, and data analysis
Laboratory safety procedures and biosecurity protocols, with a focus on risk assessment and management to ensure safe and effective laboratory practices
Troubleshooting technical problems and identify trends
Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow strict protocols and procedures.
