Job Title: Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Piper Maddox have partnered exclusively with a growing energy company to find a Senior Electrical Designer who wants to own the work from kickoff to energization. They build battery energy storage (distribution and transmission scale), large generator installations, and EV charging infrastructure.
You'd be the technical owner of the electrical scope, reporting to the Director of Engineering, and you stay with each project until it is built, tested, and running.
The Role
Scope and planning
Define the full electrical scope at kickoff: equipment, studies, interconnection, permits
Flag long-lead equipment, open decisions, and scope gaps early, with a recommendation Design
AutoCAD one-lines, three-lines, site layouts, and full construction sets
Fault current, coordination, and arc flash studies in SKM or similar
Relay settings, grounding, MV distribution, and auxiliary power
OEM submittal reviews so every component works as one system
Utility interconnection applications and permit submittals Construction and startup
Answer RFIs and resolve field issues fast
Support commissioning, utility witness testing, and energization
Deliver accurate as-builts
How You'll Work
Tell project managers and customers what the project needs
Push back on inputs that won't produce a buildable, code-compliant system
Lead technical conversations with owners, utilities, and OEMs
No budget or schedule accountability, so your time goes to engineering
What You Bring
3 to 6 years in electrical design or engineering
Hundreds of hours in AutoCAD building real construction sets
Energy storage, generation, C&I, generator, or EV charging project experience
SKM or similar analysis software
Working knowledge of distribution, grounding, protection, and interconnection
Experience carrying projects through construction and energization
Associate or Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Willingness to travel to sites as needed
Bonus: relay, HMI, EMS, inverter, or transformer experience
