THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Senior Shepherd, you’ll work closely with the Farm Manager, playing an important role in the day-to-day running of the farm while having the opportunity to grow your skills and take on new challenges.
No two days will be the same, with your work including:
• Livestock management and stock work
• Winter feeding and animal care
• General farm maintenance and fencing
• Occasional tractor work
• Working alongside the wider team to keep the farm running smoothly
ABOUT YOU
You enjoy variety, take pride in your work and are comfortable working independently while being part of a supportive, hands-on farm team. You’re practical, adaptable and keen to keep learning and developing your skills.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
• Experience across a range of general farm tasks
• Two to four working dogs
• Good time management and the ability to work independently
• An understanding of feed budgeting or a willingness to learn
• A current New Zealand driver’s licence
• Deer farming experience would be beneficial, but isn’t essential — a willingness to learn and develop your skills is what matters

THE PĀMU FARM
Set in the stunning Southland landscape, Pāmu’s Freestone Farm is located close to Manapouri and Te Anau, offering an excellent mix of rewarding farming and lifestyle.
The 718-hectare property (595ha effective) runs around 6500 stock units across sheep, beef and deer, with a strong focus on beef finishing, a terminal-mated ewe flock and a Wapiti deer terminal sire breeding programme.
With easy access to schooling and an incredible range of outdoor and recreational activities right on your doorstep, Freestone offers the opportunity to build your farming career while enjoying everything this unique part of the country has to offer.
