Role Overview
We are looking for a technically strong Engineering Manager / Technical Backend Lead with extensive experience in backend engineering, system architecture, and building scalable, high-performance e-commerce platforms.
The ideal candidate will combine hands-on technical expertise with engineering leadership, driving backend architecture, microservices development, system performance, and the delivery of reliable technology solutions for high-volume e-commerce operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead backend engineering teams in designing, developing, and scaling high-traffic e-commerce platforms.
Define backend architecture, technical strategy, coding standards, and engineering best practices.
Design and implement scalable microservices, distributed systems, and RESTful APIs.
Drive technical decisions related to databases, caching, messaging systems, and cloud infrastructure.
Ensure system reliability, performance, scalability, security, and availability.
Optimize backend services for high-volume transactions, product catalogues, order management, payments, inventory, and customer-facing applications.
Work closely with Product, Frontend, DevOps, QA, and Business teams to deliver product features.
Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and establish a culture of technical excellence.
Manage project timelines, sprint planning, technical roadmaps, and engineering deliverables.
Identify performance bottlenecks and implement solutions for latency, throughput, and resource optimization.
Drive CI/CD automation, testing strategies, monitoring, and production incident management.
Evaluate new technologies and continuously improve engineering processes.
Required Technical Skills
Strong expertise in backend development using Java, Spring Boot, or other modern backend technologies.
Hands-on experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
Strong understanding of system design, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar.
Knowledge of messaging and event-streaming platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
Experience with caching technologies such as Redis.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
Strong understanding of API design, authentication, authorization, and application security.
Experience with observability tools, performance tuning, logging, and production troubleshooting.
E-commerce Domain Experience
Experience working on large-scale e-commerce or digital commerce platforms, including:
Product catalogue and search systems.
Order management and fulfilment.
Payment gateway integrations and transaction processing.
Inventory and supply chain integrations.
Pricing, promotions, and customer-facing transactional workflows.
High-volume traffic management and system scalability.
Leadership Requirements
Proven experience leading backend engineering teams and mentoring developers.
Ability to balance hands-on technical contributions with people and delivery management.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Experience driving architectural decisions and managing technical debt.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
