This role is based in our 24 York Street office.
Position Purpose
The Event and Marketing Manager works with the Event Director across the full scope of planning, governance, market development, creative development, communications, programming and delivery of the Australian International Boat Show (AIBS). The role provides central coordination, protects the integrity of the event plan and helps turn the show's strategy into an engaging, commercially relevant experience.
This is deliberately a broad development role with meaningful responsibility of its own. The successful candidate will gain exposure to every major element of event delivery and will be expected to develop sound judgement, commercial awareness, market knowledge and the confidence to coordinate defined workstreams within agreed policies and delegated authority.
Key responsibilities
Maintain the integrated event plan, key milestones, action registers, meeting schedules and decision records.
Support the preparation of agendas, briefing papers, presentations, reports, correspondence and meeting notes with the Event Director.
Coordinate follow-up across operations, commercial, sponsorship, marketing, finance, venues and suppliers.
Monitor deadlines and dependencies, identify emerging risks or gaps and escalate them early.
Support budget monitoring, purchase and approval workflows, contract administration and management reporting as directed.
Assist with show strategy, project documentation, research, benchmarking and planning for future categories and market segments.
Contribute actively to the marketing and advertising strategy, campaign planning, creative development and content calendar for the show, ensuring activity reflects agreed audience segments and commercial priorities.
Work with marketing, creative, media and agency partners to help develop campaign briefs, key messages, visual concepts, promotional assets and exhibitor amplification activity.
Help conceive, research and coordinate education, entertainment, demonstrations, presentations, product reveals, careers content and other programmed experiences within and around the event.
Develop programming concepts that serve both mainstream recreational boating audiences and the show's staged premium and prestige evolution, while protecting the strength and accessibility of the core marine proposition.
Support the development of content-led and weather-resilient visitor experiences that provide value beyond product display and contribute to a coherent visitor journey.
Build a strong working knowledge of the Australian recreational boating market, including its consumers, industry structure, vessel and product categories, participation trends, workforce needs, emerging technology and adjacent lifestyle sectors.
Undertake and coordinate market research, audience research, industry consultation, competitor review and post-event feedback, translating findings into practical recommendations for strategy, programming, marketing and future development.
Help document, test and improve event and commercial processes for future show cycles and the planned category expansion from 2029.
Support media and stakeholder communications, ensuring information is accurate, consistent and approved.
Develop an informed understanding of exhibitor agreements, event rules, venue arrangements and key supplier relationships so routine matters can be progressed when the Event Director is unavailable.
Participate in internal and external meetings relevant to allocated workstreams, recording commitments and escalating decisions outside delegated authority.
Support event-site delivery, including executive coordination, stakeholder hosting, issue tracking and daily reporting.
Provide responsive service to exhibitors, partners, suppliers and colleagues, ensuring enquiries reach the right owner and are followed through.
Undertake other reasonable duties that support Informa and the successful delivery of AIBS.

Strong interest in event management and a genuine ambition to build a career in event leadership.
Understanding of, or strong interest in, advertising, marketing, creative development, audience communications and live-event programming.
Exceptional attention to detail and a disciplined approach to plans, deadlines, records and follow-up.
Clear written and verbal communication, with the confidence to deal professionally with senior and external stakeholders.
Good commercial judgement, discretion and respect for approval and governance requirements.

Curiosity about consumer behaviour and the ability to gather, assess and clearly present market and audience insights.
Creative thinking grounded in commercial purpose, operational practicality and the needs of exhibitors and visitors.
A collaborative, service-led mindset and willingness to help the wider team deliver.
