Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-driven Vice President of Project Management to lead the company's project management organization and oversee the successful planning, execution, and delivery of strategic business initiatives.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) or Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the VP of Project Management will establish project management standards, optimize delivery processes, manage project portfolios, and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational objectives.
This executive will collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Operations, Finance, Sales, and other business leaders to improve project performance, strengthen cross-functional coordination, and drive operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities1. Project Management Strategy & Leadership
Develop and execute the company's project management strategy.
Establish project management standards, methodologies, and best practices.
Align project initiatives with corporate goals and business priorities.
Define project governance frameworks and decision-making processes.
Advise executive leadership on project performance and strategic priorities.
2. Project Planning & Execution
Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Establish project objectives, milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
Monitor project progress and ensure timely execution.
Resolve project issues and remove operational obstacles.
Ensure project outcomes meet established quality and performance standards.
3. Portfolio & Program Management
Oversee multiple projects and strategic programs across the organization.
Prioritize projects based on business value, urgency, and available resources.
Manage dependencies across departments and project teams.
Evaluate portfolio performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Ensure project investments support long-term business objectives.
4. Budget, Resource & Cost Management
Develop and manage project budgets and financial forecasts.
Allocate personnel, funding, and resources according to project priorities.
Monitor project expenditures and control costs.
Identify budget variances and implement corrective actions.
Improve resource utilization and overall project profitability.
5. Risk Management & Quality Assurance
Identify project risks, dependencies, and potential delivery challenges.
Develop risk mitigation plans and contingency strategies.
Establish project quality standards and review processes.
Monitor compliance with internal policies and applicable requirements.
Escalate critical risks and implement timely corrective measures.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate project activities across departments and business units.
Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, and Finance leaders.
Facilitate communication among stakeholders and project teams.
Resolve conflicts involving priorities, resources, and deliverables.
Ensure alignment between project execution and business expectations.
7. Project Performance & Process Improvement
Establish project KPIs, reporting systems, and performance dashboards.
Monitor delivery timelines, budgets, quality, and stakeholder satisfaction.
Analyze project outcomes and identify operational inefficiencies.
Implement process improvements to increase delivery consistency.
Provide regular project status reports and recommendations to executives.
8. Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing project management teams.
Establish team objectives, performance standards, and accountability.
Develop project management training and career development programs.
Promote collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Build a scalable project management organization to support business growth.
QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
MBA or Master's degree preferred.
Experience
20+ years of progressive experience in Project Management, Program Management, Operations, or related functions.
10+ years of leadership experience managing project managers, programs, or project management organizations.
Proven success overseeing complex, cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives.
Strong experience in project planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
Experience developing project governance frameworks, reporting systems, and performance metrics.
Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and executive leadership skills.
Experience working with senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
