About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
SalesMonk wants senior GTM engineers who build and own outbound into SMBs, across a range of
companies and markets. You build the systems that find, enrich, route, and run pipeline at volume,
then own their results on an ongoing basis.
This is fractional by design. In SMB, the edge comes from judgment and resourcefulness: knowing
where the real data lives, how to reach an owner who ignores the usual channels, and spotting within
days, not quarters, when a campaign isn't working. SalesMonk's internal team supports you along the
way.
What you'll own (the 4 pillars)
Find the right buyers at volume: Data is the hardest part of SMB and the biggest edge. Standard
B2B databases thin out fast, so you build lists from where SMBs actually show up (local listings,
maps, review sites, directories, their own websites), reach the owner, and keep it fresh as businesses
open, close, and change hands. Signals like new locations, hiring, review volume, and customer
complaints tell you who is worth reaching and why now. The list is the strategy.
Write what gets replies: Find the angle, shape the offer, and write for every channel yourself.
Owners have no time to spare, so copy is plain, outcome-first, backed by proof from businesses like
theirs, and references something real about their business. You test offers, not just wording.
Go where the owner actually is: Channel choice matters as much as the message. Sometimes
that's a call before the doors open, sometimes a text, sometimes an intro from someone they already
trust. You drop what isn't working fast, find what does, and scale it.
Build the engine, with AI built in: You build the machinery behind all of this: scrapers, AI research
agents, custom scripts, and scoring and routing that send every account to the right channel.
What we're looking for
You think like a seller and build like an engineer. This role needs three skills that rarely live in the
same senior person, and you need all of them.
GTM judgment: a clear point of view on what converts with SMBs and why. You can size up a new
SMB market quickly, know where its real data lives, define a sharp ICP, and decide which accounts
and channels are worth the effort.
Copywriting: you write outbound that sounds like a person, not a template. You find the angle a busy
owner actually cares about and say it simply, whether it's an email, a text, or the first ten seconds of a
call.
Building: you build what the tools don't give you, wiring data, automation, and AI end to end on your
own, in code or in whatever tool fits.
SMB campaigns usually fail in one of three ways: the wrong list, the wrong channel, or a message that sounds like everyone else’s. You know how to avoid all three.
You can point to pipeline you generated, not activity you logged. You’re street smart, AI is already part of how you work, and you thrive with high autonomy and fast feedback loops.
Deep expertise in one SMB vertical is as valuable as range across many. Prior fractional, advisory, or consulting experience is a plus.
What you'll need
• 6 to 15 years in outbound, growth, GTM engineering, RevOps, or demand generation, with
significant time selling into SMBs.
• Deep understanding of SMB buying and at least one SMB vertical: the owner is often buyer, user,
and payer at once, deals close in days or weeks, and objections are about time, price, and risk.
• Proven ability to build SMB data from scratch: sourcing lists beyond standard databases, finding
the owner, and keeping data fresh as businesses open, close, and change hands.
• You write outbound copy yourself, test offers as well as wording, and can point to SMB campaigns
that drove replies and meetings.
• A track record of finding a way in when the usual channels stopped working, and scaling what did.
• Hands-on experience building your own data and outbound pipelines where off-the-shelf tools fall
short (scraping, AI research agents, custom scripts), including at least one system stood up from
zero with numbers to show for it.
• Experience running high-volume outbound in production, within deliverability best practice
(SPF/DKIM/DMARC, warm-up, inbox rotation) and the rules for calls, texts, and email.
How we work
We measure on qualified opportunities per dollar of total spend (people + tooling), not calls or emails
sent. At SMB deal sizes, efficiency is the job.
