The Vice President of Asset Management is responsible for overseeing the company’s asset management strategy, portfolio performance, investment oversight, and asset allocation initiatives. This executive role focuses on maximizing risk-adjusted returns, optimizing asset utilization, strengthening portfolio management processes, and aligning investment activities with the company’s financial objectives. The VP of Asset Management works closely with executive leadership, investment teams, finance, risk management, and external partners to evaluate investment opportunities, monitor portfolio performance, and support sustainable long-term value creation.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Management Strategy Development:
Develop and implement asset management strategies aligned with the company’s investment objectives, financial priorities, risk tolerance, and long-term growth plans.
Portfolio Performance Management:
Oversee portfolio performance across relevant asset classes, evaluate investment results, and identify opportunities to improve returns, capital efficiency, and overall portfolio quality.
Asset Allocation and Investment Planning:
Collaborate with investment leadership to establish asset allocation priorities, evaluate portfolio composition, and align investment decisions with market conditions and strategic objectives.
Investment Research and Opportunity Assessment:
Direct asset-level research, market analysis, and investment due diligence to evaluate potential opportunities, assess valuation, and support informed investment decisions.
Risk Management and Portfolio Oversight:
Work with risk management teams to identify market, liquidity, concentration, credit, and operational risks, implementing appropriate monitoring practices and mitigation strategies.
Asset Valuation and Financial Analysis:
Oversee asset valuation reviews, financial modeling, performance attribution, and scenario analysis to assess asset quality, investment potential, and portfolio sustainability.
Capital Allocation and Resource Optimization:
Evaluate capital deployment opportunities, prioritize asset management initiatives, and coordinate with finance and executive leadership to support efficient use of investment resources.
Market Monitoring and Strategic Adjustments:
Monitor economic indicators, market developments, industry trends, and asset-specific performance to identify emerging risks and opportunities and adjust management strategies accordingly.
Investment Policy and Governance:
Establish asset management policies, portfolio review procedures, reporting standards, and governance controls to support disciplined decision-making and appropriate oversight.
External Manager and Partner Relations:
Manage relationships with external asset managers, investment advisors, custodians, service providers, and other relevant partners, evaluating service quality and alignment with investment objectives.
Financial Reporting and Performance Analysis:
Oversee portfolio reporting, asset performance reviews, investment benchmarks, and financial assessments to provide executive leadership with clear insights into asset performance and strategic priorities.
Cross-Functional Business Collaboration:
Coordinate with finance, investment research, legal, compliance, and risk management teams to ensure asset management activities are aligned with business objectives and applicable requirements.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and mentor asset management professionals, establish performance expectations, strengthen analytical capabilities, and promote accountability and continuous improvement within the team.
Executive Advisory and Strategic Reporting:
Present asset management strategies, portfolio results, risk assessments, and investment recommendations to executive leadership, supporting capital allocation decisions and long-term value creation.
QualificationsEducation Background
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Investment Management, or a related field.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) or an advanced degree in Finance, Economics, or Investment Management is preferred.
Professional credentials such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), or other relevant investment qualifications are an advantage.
Work Experience
10–15 years of progressive experience in asset management, investment management, portfolio management, or related financial services functions.
At least 5 years of experience in senior leadership roles overseeing portfolios, investment teams, asset management operations, or investment strategies.
Demonstrated success in developing asset management strategies, evaluating investment opportunities, and improving portfolio performance.
Strong understanding of asset allocation, valuation methodologies, portfolio analytics, market research, and risk-adjusted performance measurement.
Experience managing investment budgets, monitoring portfolio exposures, and evaluating capital deployment decisions.
Familiarity with investment governance, regulatory requirements, reporting standards, and risk management practices relevant to the assets under management.
Excellent leadership, analytical, financial modeling, communication, and strategic decision-making skills.
Ability to translate market intelligence and portfolio analysis into actionable investment recommendations and measurable business outcomes.
