Vice President of Product Experience
Company: The Fat Man and the Thin Man. Golf Podcast
Employment Type: Full-Time | Remote
Department: Product Experience & Digital Media
Level: Vice President
Position Overview
The Fat Man and the Thin Man. Golf Podcast is seeking an experienced Vice President of Product Experience to lead the development of its audience experience, digital content strategy, and consumer-facing products.
Golf is more than a sport. It's a community built around shared experiences, personal stories, competition, and conversations that continue long after a round ends. For golf-focused media brands, creating a strong connection with that community requires more than producing content. It means understanding what audiences value, how they engage across platforms, and what keeps them coming back.
The Vice President of Product Experience will be responsible for shaping how audiences discover, consume, and interact with the brand's content and digital offerings. This includes improving the listening experience, strengthening audience engagement, identifying new product opportunities, and helping develop a more connected experience across digital channels.
Working closely with content, marketing, production, and commercial partners, this executive will help establish product priorities that support audience growth, brand development, and sustainable revenue opportunities.
We're looking for someone who understands digital media from both a consumer and business perspective. The right candidate will know how to build engaging products, use audience insights to guide decisions, and balance creative opportunities with financial responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the overall product experience strategy across podcast distribution, digital content, audience engagement, and related consumer-facing initiatives.
Develop a clear understanding of the golf audience, including listening habits, content preferences, digital behavior, and expectations for brand interaction.
Work with content and production teams to improve how episodes, interviews, discussions, and other media experiences are presented across digital platforms.
Identify opportunities to expand the audience experience through new content formats, digital products, community features, and interactive offerings.
Partner with Marketing to improve audience acquisition, engagement, retention, and the consistency of the brand experience across channels.
Evaluate podcast distribution platforms, websites, social media experiences, and other digital touchpoints to identify opportunities for improvement.
Establish performance measures covering audience growth, content engagement, listener retention, conversion, and customer satisfaction.
Collaborate with commercial leadership to assess sponsorship opportunities, branded content experiences, and partnerships that create value for both audiences and advertisers.
Work with Finance to evaluate product development budgets, operating costs, revenue opportunities, and the expected financial returns of new initiatives.
Develop business cases for digital product investments, subscription offerings, premium content, merchandise experiences, and other potential revenue opportunities.
Use audience research, analytics, customer feedback, and competitive analysis to guide product priorities and investment decisions.
Support relationships with golf industry partners, media platforms, technology providers, and other organizations relevant to the audience experience.
Oversee cross-functional projects involving product development, content production, marketing, technology, and commercial operations.
Evaluate third-party platforms and technology solutions based on usability, implementation requirements, operating costs, and business value.
Present product experience recommendations, performance results, and strategic investment priorities to executive leadership.
Qualifications
15+ years of progressive experience in product experience, digital media, consumer product management, audience development, or related leadership positions.
At least 7 years of senior leadership experience managing digital products, consumer experiences, or cross-functional product initiatives.
Experience working with podcast networks, digital publishers, sports media companies, entertainment platforms, or consumer-focused content businesses is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to develop product strategies that improve audience engagement, customer retention, and commercial performance.
Strong understanding of digital content distribution, podcast platforms, consumer behavior, audience analytics, and user experience design.
Experience developing consumer-facing digital products and managing initiatives involving content, technology, marketing, and business development.
Solid financial management experience, including product budgeting, revenue forecasting, cost analysis, investment evaluation, and return on investment.
Understanding of digital media business models, including advertising, sponsorships, subscriptions, branded content, and audience monetization.
Ability to evaluate product opportunities using customer research, performance data, market trends, and financial analysis.
Experience managing relationships with external partners, technology providers, commercial stakeholders, and creative teams.
Strong executive communication, organizational leadership, analytical judgment, and decision-making skills.
Ability to lead distributed teams and coordinate complex product initiatives in a remote working environment.
A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Digital Media, Product Design, Communications, or a related discipline is required. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred.
A genuine interest in golf, sports media, and the communities surrounding the game is highly desirable.
Ideal Candidate
You've spent your career building experiences that people choose to return to. You understand that a successful media product isn't defined by the amount of content it produces, but by the relationship it creates with its audience.
You know how to combine creative thinking with commercial judgment. You can recognize a promising product idea, determine what it will take to deliver, and evaluate whether the investment makes sense for the business.
You're comfortable working with content creators and production teams while also discussing budgets, revenue opportunities, and operating performance with business leadership.
You understand the importance of authenticity in sports media. Golf audiences value knowledgeable conversations, recognizable personalities, and content that reflects their genuine interest in the game.
You bring experience using audience data without allowing analytics to replace good creative judgment. You know when the numbers reveal a problem and when a new idea deserves the opportunity to develop.
Most importantly, you understand how to build a product experience that serves both the audience and the business. You can establish priorities, bring teams together, and turn promising ideas into practical improvements.
This role is well suited to an experienced digital media executive who enjoys golf, understands consumer engagement, and wants to help shape the future of a golf-focused content brand.
