The mandate
An established enterprise software organization is strengthening the way it builds, protects, and operates its cloud services. It is looking for an executive who can bring platform engineering, production resilience, and security outcomes under clear leadership, while working closely with product and engineering teams.
The successful leader will set direction and build a capable organization that delivers dependable services, reduces security exposure, and automates routine operational work. This is a leadership appointment with real technical accountability: the executive will challenge design decisions, examine service and security evidence, and personally engage in critical events when needed.
What you will own
An integrated operating model for cloud platforms, service operations, SRE, secure software delivery, and security engineering.
Organization design, leadership development, and measurable accountability across managers and specialist teams.
The executive view of service health, operational risk, security posture, major incidents, and investment priorities.
A close partnership with engineering leaders so reliability and security are built into architecture, development, release, and support.
Areas of impact
Service resilience and operational leadership
Define how critical services are measured and operated, including SLOs, error budgets, availability, performance, capacity, and release risk.
Lead high-severity incident response and 24x7 escalation. Set expectations for command, communications, root-cause analysis, and completion of corrective work.
Use telemetry, service reviews, readiness practices, and resilience exercises to identify weak signals and prevent customer-impacting failures.
Build repeatable operating practices for change management, on-call readiness, escalation, and continual service improvement.
Cloud platform and financial stewardship
Guide the architecture and operating model for OCI or an equivalent major provider such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Oversee Kubernetes and virtualized environments, microservices foundations, cloud networking, databases, provisioning, and platform lifecycle.
Expand infrastructure as code and policy as code to make environments consistent, reviewable, and controlled.
Ensure backups and disaster recovery are routinely tested against agreed recovery objectives; improve resilience based on exercise results.
Introduce sound cloud financial management through cost allocation, forecasting, capacity choices, rightsizing, and accountable spend.
Security engineering and threat response
Own identity and privileged-access practices, secrets handling, and least-privilege design across cloud and engineering environments.
Ensure application and API authorization testing addresses tenant boundaries, isolation, and access-control failures in multi-tenant services.
Operate a risk-based vulnerability program that assigns owners, sets remediation targets, verifies fixes, and escalates overdue exposure.
Maintain cloud security posture management, continuous monitoring, security incident response, and disciplined penetration-test follow-through.
Secure delivery, assurance, and AI operations
Work with software engineering to embed automated checks in CI/CD: SAST, DAST, SCA, secret detection, container scanning, and IaC scanning.
Agree practical remediation SLAs and risk exceptions with engineering teams, keeping controls effective and delivery workflows usable.
Maintain operating evidence for ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, and SOC 2; lead customer security assessments and responses.
Apply automation and AIOps to detection, triage, response, and toil reduction. For AI agents, establish identity controls, authorized tool access, isolated execution, complete audit trails, and human approvals for sensitive actions.
Experience and leadership profile
At least 20 years of technology experience, with a track record of senior ownership in cloud platforms, production operations, reliability engineering, DevSecOps, or security engineering.
Executive leadership across multiple functions, including managing managers, setting direction, building leadership capability, and delivering outcomes through sizeable teams.
Accountability for business-critical production services; product SaaS or other cloud-native, multi-tenant environments are especially relevant.
Practical depth in a major cloud provider, Kubernetes, microservices, networking, databases, observability, IaC, and recovery planning.
Credible record of leading significant production incidents and converting lessons into lasting changes to architecture, process, or operational readiness.
Applied security engineering experience spanning IAM/PAM, secrets, application and API authorization, vulnerability remediation, cloud posture, monitoring, and response.
Experience introducing automated CI/CD security checks and achieving sustained remediation without relying on manual review as the main control.
Experience leading ISO 27001-family and SOC 2 assurance, including evidence quality and customer-facing security reviews.
Ability to communicate technical risks, trade-offs, service performance, and investment needs clearly to executive stakeholders.
Additional strengths
Production experience with OCI; equivalent leadership depth with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is applicable.
Background in enterprise SaaS or a regulated, security-conscious technology environment.
Relevant cloud, security, SRE, or audit credentials, such as cloud architecture/security certifications, CISSP, CISM, or ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor.
Demonstrated use of AIOps or AI agents in operational settings with clear boundaries, oversight, and auditability.
