Description supplied by the original job listing.
Ready to power the future of sustainable energy? As a Senior Automation Software Engineer, you'll bring Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to life for Energy from Waste (EfW) and Renewable Gas (RG) plants. You'll lead projects from engineering and testing through to commissioning, both on site and remotely. With your experience, you'll also help shape how our department works, set technical standards and grow the next generation of automation talent.
Your responsibilities
Engineer smart control solutions: Design and run DCS projects for EfW and RG plants. You'll develop DCS software for EfW plants and PLC software for RG plants and package units.
Build secure, connected systems: Configure managed switches, routers, DMZ routers and firewalls, and set up industrial PCs. You'll also design and coordinate the IT/OT interface for our EfW plants.
Test, commission and deliver: Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing of DCS hardware and software, including Safety Instrumented Systems. Commission systems on site and remotely, with around 10% travel.
Lead with technical expertise: Review technical specifications and RfQ documents to make sure they meet codes and client requirements. You'll lead design reviews with customers and support our tendering and commissioning teams.
Shape standards and grow people: Develop and improve our DCS template library, including HMI faceplates and typicals. Coach entry-level engineers, help colleagues solve DCS issues, and support your manager on department strategy, work processes and lessons learned.
5+ years of hands-on Siemens PCS 7 expertise: You've done engineering, configuration and commissioning, with strong knowledge of PCS 7 V9. Experience with V10 is a real plus.
Builder mindset from day one: You've set up PCS 7 projects from scratch and can configure a complete DCS system from the ground up. You also understand the system architecture well, including AS, OS, ES and network infrastructure.
Network and integration know-how: You have practical experience with industrial Ethernet and with configuring and programming network switches. You've also integrated package units and third-party systems into a DCS.
Commissioning confidence: You're strong at troubleshooting and comfortable leading FAT/SWFAT and SAT activities. You're happy to travel for project work and commissioning, which is limited to about 12 weeks a year.
Team player who shares knowledge: You enjoy coaching junior engineers and helping shape our internal PCS 7 standards and libraries. You communicate confidently in English, both written and spoken.
