About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer to join a mission-critical, geographically distributed system supporting the Intelligence Community. This role demands a highly skilled professional capable of designing, implementing, and maintaining complex data architectures that meet stringent security, performance, and interface requirements. As a key member of the technical team, you will be responsible for managing both relational and non-relational data systems, ensuring data integrity, availability, and security. Your expertise will contribute to the development of scalable, high-performance database solutions that support critical national security objectives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Engineer, particularly within similar high-stakes, large-scale programs. A strong foundation in relational databases such as PostgreSQL, along with experience in NoSQL databases like MongoDB and Cassandra, is essential. Proficiency in Java programming is required, serving as a baseline for technical communication and development tasks. Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or possess equivalent experience, with at least four additional years of DBA experience in lieu of a degree. An active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph is mandatory, with the last polygraph conducted within the past six years. Candidates must have no Counterintelligence Concerns (CCAs). Nice-to-have skills include experience with SAFe or Agile methodologies, as well as familiarity with Cassandra and MongoDB.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and document relational and non-relational data architectures, ensuring they meet operational and security requirements.
Manage data movement at scale, including replication across distributed nodes, ensuring high availability, failover capabilities, and concurrent access management.
Optimize database performance through tuning, capacity planning, and proactive issue investigation and resolution.
Implement and oversee backup and recovery procedures, ensuring data integrity and availability.
Translate schema requirements and raw data into usable structures through ad hoc queries, scripting, and macros.
Conduct requirements analysis, risk assessments, and evaluate system-level solutions to ensure optimal performance and security.
Define and manage both short-term and long-term database requirements for administration and system design.
Collaborate within an Agile team environment, working closely with systems, software, testing, and information assurance engineers.
Participate in Program Increment Planning and daily collaboration with technical peers and customer points of contact to ensure project alignment and success.
