About The Role
Version 1 is seeking an experienced Python Developer with expertise in the trading domain and Financial Information Exchange (FIX) protocol to join its growing technology team. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of high-performance trading applications and financial technology solutions.
This role is ideal for a software development professional with at least six years of Python development experience and a strong understanding of trading systems, market data, order management systems, and electronic trading workflows. You will collaborate closely with traders, quantitative analysts, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into reliable, scalable, and efficient software solutions.
The position offers an opportunity to work on complex financial technology challenges, improve trading system performance, and contribute to the delivery of secure and resilient applications within a collaborative consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain robust trading applications using Python, following established software engineering standards and best practices.
FIX Protocol Integration: Implement, configure, and support FIX protocol-based solutions to facilitate reliable communication between trading platforms, brokers, exchanges, and other financial systems.
Trading Systems Support: Work with trading platforms, market data feeds, order management systems, and execution workflows to ensure smooth and accurate operations.
Requirements Analysis: Collaborate with traders, quantitative analysts, business stakeholders, and technical teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions aligned with business objectives.
Performance Optimization: Analyze application performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and optimize algorithms and services to improve speed, reliability, scalability, and resource utilization.
System Integration: Develop and maintain APIs, data-processing components, and integrations connecting trading applications with internal and external financial systems.
Testing and Quality Assurance: Write unit tests, perform integration testing, investigate defects, and ensure that applications meet functional, performance, and reliability requirements.
Code Reviews: Participate in peer reviews, contribute to technical discussions, and maintain clean, reusable, well-documented, and maintainable code.
Deployment and Production Support: Support application releases, monitor production systems, diagnose incidents, and implement fixes to minimize service disruptions.
Database Management: Work with SQL and NoSQL databases to manage trading-related information, improve query performance, and support efficient data processing.
Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about developments in Python, electronic trading, FIX protocol implementations, financial markets, and modern software engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
At least 6+ years of professional experience in Python development, preferably within financial services or electronic trading environments.
Strong practical knowledge of Python programming, object-oriented development, data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
Hands-on experience implementing or supporting the Financial Information Exchange (FIX) protocol.
Solid understanding of trading systems, market data, order management systems, and trade execution processes.
Experience working with relational databases and SQL, along with familiarity with NoSQL database technologies.
Understanding of REST APIs, system integration, distributed applications, and production support processes.
Experience with version control systems such as Git and established software development workflows.
Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail.
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
Experience with FIX engines, FIX message structures, session management, and troubleshooting FIX connectivity issues.
Familiarity with low-latency or high-throughput financial applications and real-time market data processing.
Knowledge of financial instruments, trading strategies, order routing, and execution management workflows.
Experience with automated testing frameworks, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), and deployment automation.
Familiarity with Linux environments, cloud platforms, and application monitoring tools.
Understanding of multithreading, asynchronous programming, concurrency, and performance profiling in Python.
Experience working in Agile development environments and contributing to iterative software delivery.
