Role Description The Freelance AI Engineer will work in a full-time remote capacity, collaborating closely with product, content, and engineering teams to build and refine AI-driven features for the Superfan.ng platform. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and implementing machine learning models, developing and optimizing neural network architectures, and integrating natural language processing (NLP) solutions that support African languages and cultural content. The role involves analyzing user interaction data to improve pattern recognition for recommendations, personalization, and quiz difficulty adaptation. The AI Engineer will also participate in code reviews, maintain high-quality software development practices, and document models, APIs, and workflows for ongoing iteration and scalability. This position offers flexibility while requiring consistent communication, ownership of deliverables, and a strong focus on building practical, production-ready AI systems.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, including algorithms, data structures, and clean, maintainable code.
Experience with Pattern Recognition and Neural Networks for real-world machine learning applications.
Hands-on expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP), preferably with multilingual or low-resource languages.
Proficiency in Python or similar languages, and familiarity with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
Understanding of data pipelines, model deployment, and integration of AI services into production systems.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage priorities, and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Interest in African languages and cultures; prior experience in edtech or language-learning products is a plus.
