Head of Engineer

We are looking for a hands-on Head of Engineering who can build the technology foundation, engineering culture and team required to scale this platform. As the Head of Engineering, you will own the engineering function end-to-end, from technology strategy and architecture to team building, product delivery, quality and production reliability. This is not a purely managerial role. We are looking for a technology leader who can set the engineering vision while remaining deeply involved in architecture, critical technical decisions, engineering quality and complex product deliveries.
Responsibilities:
Own and drive the engineering strategy, architecture and technology roadmap aligned with business goals.
Lead end-to-end product engineering, from concept and design through development, deployment and scale.
Architect and build scalable, reliable and transaction-intensive backend systems, APIs and platforms.
Build configurable workflows, business rules, integrations and platform capabilities that can support evolving fleet operations.
Build, lead, mentor and scale a high-performing engineering team across different technical functions.
Establish strong engineering practices around code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, observability and production reliability.
Strengthen the organisation's QA and Quality Engineering foundation, including automation and release quality.
Drive practical adoption of AI/ML and Generative AI to solve business problems and create measurable impact.
Make effective build-vs-buy-vs-integrate decisions across technology, infrastructure and third-party platforms.
Ensure systems are designed for security, scalability, availability and maintainability.
Partner closely with Product, Operations and Business teams to translate complex real-world problems into scalable technology solutions.
Remain hands-on with architecture reviews, critical technical problems and high-impact product deliveries.
Establish engineering metrics and processes to continuously improve delivery velocity, reliability and product quality.
Requirements:
8+ years of experience in software engineering.
3+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
Proven experience taking major products from concept to production scale.
Strong technical depth in: Backend Engineering, APIs and Distributed Systems, Databases, Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps and CI/CD, System Architecture.
Hands-on exposure to AI/ML, Generative AI or AI-powered products/workflows.
Strong understanding of automated testing, QA, observability and production reliability.
Experience building workflow-heavy, configurable or transaction-intensive platforms.
Strong problem-solving and architectural thinking with the ability to balance speed, quality and long-term scalability.
Proven ability to hire, mentor and develop strong engineering talent.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, product-focused environment where ownership and execution matter.
