Role Description The AP Chemistry Mentor is a part-time, remote role focused on guiding high school students through AP Chemistry concepts and exam preparation. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering online tutoring sessions, explaining core topics such as chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, and equilibrium, and helping learners solve practice problems. The mentor will assess student understanding, provide feedback, and adjust teaching methods based on individual learning styles. Additional duties include creating or recommending study materials, supporting students with homework and test strategies, and maintaining clear communication with learners and, when appropriate, their caregivers.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of AP Chemistry curriculum and core high school chemistry concepts.
Experience in online tutoring, mentoring, or teaching, preferably with high school or AP-level students.
Ability to explain complex scientific ideas clearly, using examples, visual aids, and problem-solving techniques.
Proficiency with online teaching platforms, digital collaboration tools, and virtual classroom technologies.
Excellent communication, patience, and interpersonal skills to support diverse learners.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Education, or a related field (AP teaching or tutoring experience is a plus).
Strong organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to manage part-time remote work independently.
