A global bank that is standing up its India technology and operations centre is now building its India ESG and sustainability research desk, the small team that will feed numbers into every disclosure the bank's investors ask about. It has partnered with Flexiple, a managed marketplace that helps global companies build high-performing teams and centres in India, to hire the first analyst into that desk.
Why this desk exists
Right now, ESG data for this bank's India operations gets pulled together once a year, by whichever analyst has time, from spreadsheets that do not talk to each other. The desk exists to make that a continuous process instead of an annual scramble, and to start answering questions the bank's clients and regulators are asking more often, from emissions data to governance scoring on the companies it lends to.
What the analyst role covers
Research and score counterparties and portfolio companies against standard ESG frameworks
Track regulatory and disclosure requirements across the markets the bank operates in and flag what changes
Build and maintain the datasets and dashboards the desk reports from, instead of rebuilding them each quarter
Draft sections of client-facing and regulatory ESG reporting for review by the desk lead
Work with credit and risk teams to fold ESG scoring into how they already assess a counterparty
What you would need to bring
2 to 7 years in ESG research, sustainability reporting, credit research, or a closely related analytical role
Working knowledge of at least one major ESG framework, such as GRI, SASB, or TCFD
Strong Excel and data skills, and comfort pulling a defensible number out of a messy dataset
Clear written English, since a lot of this work ends up quoted directly in a report
A finance, economics, environmental science, or related background
The role is based in Mumbai, Chennai, or Hyderabad, hybrid, alongside the wider operations centre.
