Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and commercially driven Senior Manager – Purchase to lead and strengthen our procurement function from our Kolkata office.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of relevant experience in purchase/procurement, preferably in manufacturing, consumer products, FMCG, lifestyle products, sustainable products, raw materials, or a similar environment.
The candidate will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies, managing strategic suppliers, negotiating commercial terms, ensuring uninterrupted availability of materials, controlling procurement costs and building a robust supplier ecosystem aligned with the company's growth plans.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement
Develop and implement the overall purchase and procurement strategy in line with business requirements.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, value engineering and procurement optimization.
Develop reliable domestic and international supplier networks for raw materials, finished goods, packaging materials, components and other requirements.
Evaluate and onboard new suppliers based on quality, cost, capacity, reliability and delivery performance.
Develop alternate and backup sources to minimize supply-chain risks.
Vendor Management
Manage strategic supplier relationships and conduct regular supplier performance reviews.
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, credit periods, MOQ, lead times, quality terms and other commercial conditions.
Establish long-term partnerships with key vendors while maintaining competitive procurement costs.
Monitor vendor performance against agreed SLAs/KPIs and take corrective actions where required.
Lead vendor development initiatives for new products and materials.
Cost & Commercial Management
Drive year-on-year cost optimization and procurement savings.
Analyze market prices, commodity trends, supplier quotations and cost structures.
Benchmark supplier pricing and ensure commercially competitive procurement.
Maintain strong control over purchase budgets and working capital.
Optimize inventory levels and procurement cycles without compromising business continuity.
Supply & Inventory Planning
Work closely with Production, Planning, Sales, Operations, Finance and Product Development teams to understand material requirements.
Ensure timely availability of materials to support production and customer requirements.
Monitor purchase orders, delivery schedules, pending supplies and material shortages.
Support demand planning and inventory optimization.
Develop systems to improve procurement lead times and order fulfilment.
Process & Governance
Establish and strengthen procurement processes, policies and approval mechanisms.
Ensure proper documentation, purchase orders, vendor records and commercial agreements.
Develop procurement dashboards and MIS covering spend, savings, supplier performance, delivery and inventory.
Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and commercial controls.
Identify procurement risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
Team Leadership
Lead, mentor and develop the purchase/procurement team.
Set performance objectives and KPIs for team members.
Build a performance-oriented procurement culture focused on cost, quality, delivery and supplier development.
Improve procurement systems, processes and team capabilities as the organization scales.

Candidate Profile
Essential:
Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in Purchase / Procurement / Strategic Sourcing.
Graduate degree in any discipline; MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations or related field will be an advantage.
Strong experience in vendor development, negotiation and commercial management.
Proven experience managing significant procurement spends and multiple suppliers.
Strong understanding of procurement processes, inventory management and supply-chain operations.
Excellent negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong command of MS Excel and procurement/ERP systems.
Ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, Production, Quality, Sales and Product teams.
Strong leadership and people-management capabilities.
Preferred:
Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, consumer products, home & lifestyle, personal care, packaging, sustainable products or similar industries.
Experience in sourcing bamboo, wood, natural materials, polymers, packaging or other sustainable/eco-friendly materials would be an added advantage.
Exposure to both domestic and international sourcing will be preferred.
Experience working in a high-growth organization or startup environment will be an advantage.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a hands-on procurement leader, not just an administrator. The ideal candidate should be commercially sharp, data-driven and capable of building a scalable procurement function.
You should be comfortable with supplier negotiations, cost structures, market intelligence, vendor development, sourcing strategy and procurement analytics, while also being willing to get into operational details when required.
The candidate should demonstrate strong ownership, integrity, urgency and the ability to build long-term supplier relationships while protecting the company's commercial interests.
