General Counsel

Role Description The General Counsel will provide strategic legal guidance on the city’s development, operations, and governance in alignment with its sustainability and technology-focused vision. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing and drafting contracts, advising on regulatory and compliance matters, overseeing corporate governance frameworks, and managing legal risk across projects and partnerships. The role also involves advising leadership on labor and employment matters, data privacy, and policies that support ethical and compliant use of AI and smart-city technologies. This is a part-time remote role, requiring close collaboration with executive leadership, project managers, and external counsel across jurisdictions.
Qualifications
Strong expertise in general Legal Issues and the ability to provide comprehensive Legal Advice across a range of commercial and regulatory matters.
Practical experience in Labor and Employment Law, including policy development, dispute prevention, and compliance with applicable workforce regulations.
In-depth knowledge of Data Privacy, cybersecurity-related legal frameworks, and regulations governing data use in technology-driven environments.
Demonstrated competence in Corporate Governance, including board support, policy drafting, and oversight of governance structures for complex organizations or projects.
Law degree (JD, LLB, or equivalent) and active license to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction; prior in-house counsel experience is highly desirable.
Experience with smart cities, large-scale urban developments, infrastructure projects, or technology-focused organizations is an advantage.
Proven ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple matters concurrently, and communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders.
