About the Role
Office Beacon is looking for a Junior Python Engineer with strong Python fundamentals and hands-on experience developing backend applications and APIs using FastAPI.
You will contribute to backend services, REST APIs, automation scripts, integrations, internal tools, and product features. You will work closely with other engineers, QA, and product teams to build, test, debug, and maintain reliable software.
Key Responsibilities
Python & Backend Development
Develop and maintain backend applications and services using Python and FastAPI.
Build clean, reusable, and maintainable Python modules.
Implement backend business logic, validation, error handling, and application workflows.
Follow established coding standards and software engineering practices.
Develop backend services supporting web, desktop, and AI-enabled applications.
API Development & Integration
Design and develop REST APIs using FastAPI.
Implement request validation, authentication, and authorization.
Apply appropriate API security practices.
Integrate third-party APIs and external services.
Work with structured data and file-processing workflows.
Create and maintain API documentation using Swagger/OpenAPI.
Support frontend and QA teams with API integration and testing.
Automation & Scripting
Develop Python scripts for automation, data processing, integrations, and internal tools.
Automate repetitive engineering and product workflows.
Build utilities that improve operational efficiency.
Maintain and improve existing automation scripts.
Troubleshoot script failures and improve automation reliability.
Database Development
Work with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or SQLite.
Perform database operations supporting backend features.
Work with ORM technologies such as SQLAlchemy, SQLModel, Tortoise ORM, or similar.
Assist with queries, models, migrations, and data validation.
Handle database errors appropriately and maintain data integrity.
Debugging & Testing
Debug APIs, Python applications, scripts, logs, and workflows.
Use tools such as Postman, Swagger, application logs, and debugging tools to investigate issues.
Identify root causes and implement appropriate fixes.
Support production issue resolution and application maintenance.
Participate in unit, integration, API, and functional testing.
Write and maintain automated tests where required.
Validate API responses, error handling, and edge cases.
Participate in bug fixing and regression testing.
Software Engineering & Collaboration
Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
Follow Git workflows including branching, commits, pull requests, and code reviews.
Collaborate with frontend developers, backend engineers, QA engineers, and product teams.
Support deployment and release activities.
Document technical implementations, APIs, scripts, and troubleshooting procedures.
Must-Have Qualifications
1–3 years of professional experience in Python development.
Strong understanding of Python fundamentals, including:
Functions
Classes and object-oriented programming
Modules and packages
Exception handling
Data structures
File handling
Hands-on professional experience with FastAPI.
Experience developing REST APIs.
Understanding of API request/response handling and validation.
Basic understanding of authentication and authorization.
Basic understanding of API security fundamentals.
Experience with at least one database such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or SQLite.
Familiarity with at least one Python ORM such as SQLAlchemy, SQLModel, Tortoise ORM, or similar.
Experience writing Python scripts for automation, data processing, integrations, or backend utilities.
Familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows such as branches and pull requests.
Experience debugging applications using logs, Postman, Swagger, or similar tools.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of asynchronous programming in Python.
Experience with Pydantic and request/data validation.
Familiarity with Alembic or database migration tools.
Experience with Celery or Redis.
Experience writing automated tests using Pytest or similar frameworks.
Exposure to Docker and CI/CD workflows.
Experience deploying applications to AWS, GCP, Azure, Render, Railway, or similar platforms.
Experience working with AI/LLM APIs or AI-enabled applications.
Experience integrating Gmail API, Google Calendar API, OpenAI APIs, Stripe, or Auth0.
Exposure to desktop application technologies such as PyQt, Tkinter, Kivy, or Electron.
