About The Role
For one of our leading clients, we are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer specializing in Ruby and AI platforms to join their AI Events team. This role involves designing and developing event-driven infrastructure that powers automated AI workflows throughout the software development lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product, and design to build scalable, reliable systems that facilitate seamless integration of AI capabilities into existing workflows. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the evolution of AI-driven features, contribute to high-impact projects, and work within a remote, collaborative environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with proven experience in the following areas:
Deep commercial experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails, particularly within large-scale, production environments.
Proven track record of building user-facing products that incorporate Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI integrations.
Extensive experience designing and operating high-availability, high-throughput systems at scale.
Hands-on experience developing agentic systems and workflows that enable AI agents to operate autonomously.
Ability to adapt quickly to evolving AI capabilities and solve complex technical challenges.
Excellent written communication skills, essential for effective collaboration within remote, globally distributed teams.
Additional experience with Python, developer tooling, or GitLab as a product is advantageous.
Responsibilities
The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for a broad range of technical and collaborative tasks, including:
Designing and implementing trigger systems that connect GitLab events such as code pushes, merge requests, issue updates, CI/CD results, and deployments to AI-powered workflows.
Developing integrations for third-party tools like Jira, Jenkins, and Slack to ensure comprehensive event coverage.
Contributing to the core event platform that underpins AI features, enabling intelligent decision-making on workflow execution.
Architecting systems for high availability, reliability, and throughput, ensuring effective processing of events at scale.
Building and maintaining production functionalities within a large Ruby on Rails monolith, ensuring stability and performance.
Influencing product and architectural strategies by proposing iterative solutions to complex technical challenges across multiple services.
Collaborating with engineering, product, design, and AI platform teams to enhance trigger capabilities and support the broader agent ecosystem.
Participating in Tier 2 and Tier 3 on-call rotations to troubleshoot and resolve production, security, and urgent engineering issues promptly.
