About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Java Developer to join our Platform Engineering team at BlackRock. This pivotal role involves designing, developing, and enhancing scalable software systems that form the backbone of Aladdin, BlackRock's sophisticated investment operating system. As part of the team, you will contribute to building foundational infrastructure and platforms that boost developer productivity, system stability, and performance. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping product roadmaps, solving complex engineering challenges, and ensuring the delivery of reliable, high-quality applications. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that values innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background in computer science, engineering, or a related field, supported by extensive practical experience in software development. You should have 8-10+ years of proven expertise in core Java, object-oriented programming, and design patterns. Familiarity with backend and frontend technologies such as Spring, TypeScript, JavaScript, Angular, React, or Python is essential. You should have a track record of building high-quality, scalable software using test-driven and Agile methodologies, leveraging open-source frameworks and development tools. Experience working with relational and distributed non-relational databases, scalable data storage, caching platforms, and event streaming technologies is highly desirable. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to understand complex financial or investment-related problems. Leadership experience in managing software projects or teams, along with exposure to APIs, microservices, cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure, and DevOps tools, will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across offices and countries to define product roadmaps and prioritize deliverables, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Enhance and evolve CI/CD pipelines, build systems, package-management capabilities, and enterprise-grade container orchestration platforms supporting declarative infrastructure and horizontal scaling.
Support operational teams through rigorous testing, code reviews, resilience practices, and providing second-level production support to ensure system stability and performance.
Design, develop, and deliver efficient, highly available, fault-tolerant, and concurrent software systems that meet business and technical requirements.
Identify and resolve complex engineering issues, dependencies, and potential roadblocks by applying innovative solutions and best practices.
Apply disciplined software engineering practices throughout the development lifecycle, emphasizing design quality, testing, and continuous improvement.
Foster an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture by actively participating in recruiting, mentoring, and employee engagement initiatives.
Lead individual projects by managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, utilizing Agile methodologies to ensure timely and quality outputs.
