AH Desk Engineer

Job Purpose
To ensure the reliable plant operation as per design standard in all areas and Turbine/Boiler efficiency as per P & B target.
To establish the best operating practices for achieving zero breakdown & 100% equipment availability, to achieve the desired Generation & minimize the Auxiliary power consumption as per P & B target.
To optimize the DM water consumption and to achieve the key equipment’s targeted efficiency levels while complying with high standards of safety and environment.
Timely reporting of abnormalities to the maintenance department and getting it attended at the earliest.
Job Context & Major Challenges
Job Context
CPP Mahan having capacity- 900MW, caters the power requirement of Smelter having capacity 360Ton per year as per their demand which has to be uninterrupted and at the lowest cost. As such, CPP needs to be operated at best (close to design) efficiency level which demands:
Operating the plant with lowest Auxiliary Power Consumption, specific coal and oil consumption, DM Water consumption etc.
Operation of unit near to design level with minimum deviation to get maximum efficiency along with full compliance with environmental norms, equipment & people safety
Monitoring & Maintaining the equipment healthiness through keeping close watch via online Parameters and utilizing effectively the raw inputs like coal, oil, water, compressed air etc. to achieve lowest cost of the power generation.
Also maintaining good Housekeeping of the concerned Unit is responsibility of the position holder.
Major Challenges
CPP is fulfilling the power requirement of Smelter unit/Aluminum process plant. Hence CPP generation should be of good quality, reliable and uninterrupted. Due to such criticality, following are the major challenges for CPP, Desk engineer which they have to take care:
Emergency handling of power plant without any loss to the Smelter Plant.
Smooth, qualitative & reliable operation of 6x150MW units.
Optimizing the consumption of key inputs and auxiliary power of concerned Units.
Minimum forced outages and minimum down time.
Restoration of units after tripping in minimum time.

KRA1 1) Business Excellence OPERATIONS
Operation with high availability of all units and ensuring plant operation as per the norms (Quantitative & Qualitative) in short term and long term basis.
To achieve the Boiler/Turbine efficiency as per P & B target, optimizing DM water consumption, achieving equipment’s targeted efficiency levels while complying with high standards of safety and environment and ensuring 100% compliance with statutory norms.
Achieving daily targets for power generation with minimum current fluctuation and reviving station within minimum time during emergency.
Monitoring boiler efficiency, turbine heat rate and Plant Heat rate and varying operation process with stipulated norms based on the PHR reports
Implementing all SOPs related to operations of Boilers and Turbine units
System improvement by adopting best practices and putting our plant at bench mark level compared with other power plants.
Maintenance
Facilitating regular maintenance during assigned shift:
Coordinating with maintenance teams for planning and execution of all maintenance activities (preventive, corrective, breakdown)
Communicating maintenance schedule to concerned desk and shop floor engineers
Highlighting under performance of equipment to maintenance team.

Exploring and implementing continuous process improvement to achieve cost saving without compromising with desired power generation.
KRA3 3) Cash 1) Maintaining high standards of plant performance, boiler efficiency and turbine efficiency
Maintaining export and import of power to and from the Grid as per schedule to avoid penalties and maximizing incentives
Eliminating leakages and wastage of DM water, compressed air and steam.
KRA4 4) Customer 1) Minimizing response time through collaboration during emergency.
Addressing the grievance of customer in a gentle manner
KRA5 5) Sustainability& Compliance 1) Implementing sustainable practices towards controlling auxiliary power consumption as well as specific oil and water consumption towards energy saving.
Ensuring environment compliance by monitoring leakages and emissions and getting it corrected through maintenance team to achieve zero discharge.
Ensuring compliance with Integrated Management system and Energy Management System
KRA6 6) Safety 1) Implementing Health, Safety, Environment norms in area of operation like LOTOTO, HIRA, Use of PPEs and stack emission.
Coordinating and controlling isolation and de-isolation of equipment in compliance with PTW system.
Imparting safety related training to team through Tool Box Talks
Handling emergencies efficiently while taking due care of safety.
KRA7 7) People development and engagement 1) Monitoring and improving performance of team members through on the job training.
Monitoring contract labor deployment, partnering awareness with respect to technical, safety and behavioral aspects through tool box talks and monitoring on the shop floor.
