Structural and Civil Engineer, BIM Authoring (Remote Contract)

A remote contract for practising civil or structural engineers who author BIM models and drawing sets for a living, not just review them.
Why the role exists
Software teams building AI tools for the construction and engineering sector need practitioners who can tell good engineering output from plausible-looking rubbish: whether a model is buildable, whether the drawings are complete, whether the IFC export survives a round trip, whether the design respects the relevant code.
Day to day you would
• Produce and check full drawing packages (plans, sections, elevations, schedules)
• Build and manage models for larger or multi-building schemes in Revit, ArchiCAD or a comparable authoring tool
• Round-trip IFC exports (2x3 or 4) and confirm the geometry, classifications and property mapping survive
• Apply whichever code family applies to the job (Eurocode, ACI/ASCE, IS, BS)
• Spot constructability and coordination problems and say how you would fix them
• Explain design decisions in writing so that non-engineers, and software, can follow them
Minimum background
- Degree in civil or structural engineering or architecture (a master's is a plus)
- Five or more years since graduating spent producing full drawing packages and running model development
- Three or more years of daily BIM authoring
- Multidisciplinary coordination and IFC validation on complex projects
- English good enough to argue a design point, in writing and on a call
Nice to have: PE / CEng or equivalent, scripting against IFC (Python, ifcopenshell), clash detection (Navisworks, Solibri), analysis packages (ETABS, SAP2000, Robot, Tekla), family creation, or prior experience labelling data for AI.
Hours and pay
20 or more hours per week, remote, independent contractor, $30 to $50 an hour.
