Digital Architect

Job Description
On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is seeking a Digital Architect to work on service innovation, program review and digital transformation projects across the organization. The Digital Architect, Data will work as part of cross-functional program review or product delivery teams. These teams, led by product owners and work collaboratively and collectively participate in a full range of activities including: field research, backlog definition and refinement, and sprint planning and execution. Digital transformation projects review the current state of services, identify future opportunities, and then deliver new services that are efficient, effective and affordable.
Responsibilities
Services and project deliverables should evolve as the work progresses, in response to emerging user and business needs, as well as design and technical opportunities. However, the following must be delivered (iteratively) over the course of the project:
Lead the solution architecture of digital services by:
Developing the overall architectural plan, ensuring a citizen-centered design and agile software approach;
Uncovering existing system context;
Providing recommendations and prototypes for technical discovery and feasibility;
Providing and being accountable for the solution designs that account for iterative implementation; and
Analyzing impacts, exposure, and risk as it pertains to the solution design.
Guide the team in the implementation of digital services by:
Facilitating frequent delivery of products to ensure that the target architecture is successfully created;
Determining the tactical approach on each integration and the target state of system boundaries and interactions;
Identifying opportunities to leverage common components and capabilities of other digital services;
Encouraging team contribution towards developing opportunities to leverage other digital services;
Providing guidance on the creation of detailed designs for solution implementation;
Reviewing code changes;
Contributing to code changes in order to implement user stories and to complete technical tasks; and
Providing coaching and mentorship to the product team
Contribute to the architectural vision for a platform of user-centric services, particularly as it relates to the use of common components and capabilities to accelerate service delivery.
Contribute to the development of principles, metrics, and standards for service quality and delivery.
Provide software architecture information to technical and non-technical audiences by creating materials (documents, diagrams, presentations, etc.) appropriate to the audience.
Actively participate in the development and continuous improvement of the architecture practice
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of study. Equivalencies will be considered.
5 years of experience leading cross-functional Agile product teams, providing architectural direction, and mentoring developers and technical leads.
8 years of experience as a data architect, software architect, or senior data engineer, with a focus on collaborative work with and/or within cross-functional teams to create new software applications.
5 years of experience leading solution architecture and introducing the overall technical vision for large-scale enterprise projects with integrations between systems.
4 years of experience leading domain modelling and database schema design for transactional and reporting systems.
5 years of experience demonstrating strong communication skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making.
Supplier attestation confirming no actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest and confirming that all information provided is true, accurate, and complete to the best of the Supplier’s knowledge.
3 years of experience aligning data architecture with organizational data strategies, digital service delivery goals, and emerging AI-enabled business capabilities.
3 years of experience applying data governance principles to ensure data consistency, quality, compliance, metadata management, and responsible use of data for analytics and AI solutions.
4 years of experience applying secure development practices and managing identity and access using role-based or attribute-based access control and Zero Trust Architecture principles.
5 years of experience architecting solutions that leverage relational and non-relational databases, analytics platforms, and AI technologies, including data modelling, performance optimization, and the delivery of actionable insights.
2 years of experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to embed data interoperability and standardization practices into product development workflows.
5 years of experience incrementally transforming legacy systems into modern digital and data-driven services across multiple releases, leveraging cloud-native and AI-enabled technologies where appropriate.
2 years of experience working with the Government of Alberta’s Information Technology/Information Management policies, standards, and guidelines.
3 years of experience working within an organization equivalent in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta, supporting enterprise-scale data, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives.
