Staff Backend Engineer

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:
Product and Platform Development:
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services powering JustCall.
Deliver high-quality software for customer-facing and internal platform initiatives.
Drive end-to-end ownership from design through deployment and production support.
Build resilient, observable, and highly available distributed systems.
Technical Leadership:
Lead architecture discussions for medium to large-scale engineering initiatives.
Break down complex technical problems into executable implementation plans.
Improve engineering standards, code quality, and system reliability.
Drive engineering best practices around testing, monitoring, CI/CD, and security.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineering teams.
Participate in technical planning and roadmap discussions.
Mentor senior engineers and conduct design and code reviews.
Improve developer productivity through reusable frameworks and tooling.
Performance and Reliability:
Improve system scalability and reduce latency across core services.
Optimise databases, APIs, caching layers, and asynchronous processing.
Ensure production stability through monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
Requirements:
8+ years of software engineering experience.
Strong backend engineering experience with scalable production systems.
Deep understanding of distributed systems.
Experience designing REST APIs and event-driven architectures.
Strong knowledge of databases, caching, queues, and messaging systems.
Experience working with cloud platforms.
Strong debugging and production troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Candidates may have experience in one or more of the following: AI and Voice Platforms, Streaming APIs, LLM integrations, ASR/TTS systems, Voice agent orchestration, AI evaluation pipelines, Platform Engineering, API platforms, CRM integrations, Webhooks, Event-driven architecture, SDK development, Backend Systems, Distributed systems, PHP, Node.js, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Queue-based architectures.
Nice to Have:
Experience with AI products or LLM applications.
Real-time communication systems (Voice, Video, RTC).
Open-source contributions.
SaaS product experience.
