Accounting Manager

About The Role
The Accounting Manager owns core accounting operations, close processes, and financial reporting for a growing technology business. The role applies US GAAP across revenue, expenses, accruals, leases, fixed assets, and equity transactions while maintaining accurate, audit-ready financial records.
You will lead the monthly and quarterly close, strengthen SOX controls, and partner with finance, legal, tax, and business teams on accounting conclusions and reporting requirements. The role is based in Chicago, IL and operates remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, flux analysis, and close reporting
Prepare and review US GAAP financial statements, management schedules, and supporting disclosures for SEC reporting requirements
Own SOX control execution, documentation, testing support, remediation tracking, and evidence collection across accounting processes
Manage accounting for revenue, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, leases, equity compensation, intercompany activity, and other complex transactions
Maintain the chart of accounts and accounting policies; document technical accounting conclusions and update procedures as the business evolves
Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, FP&A, legal, and operations to resolve audit requests, improve data quality, and support forecasting and planning
Improve accounting workflows and reporting through ERP systems, Excel or Google Sheets, and close-management and BI tools
What We Are Looking For
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years managing close or general ledger processes
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification or active pursuit strongly preferred
Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, SOX controls, SEC reporting requirements, and audit processes
Hands-on experience with ERP platforms such as NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP and advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills
Experience preparing account reconciliations, flux analysis, technical accounting memos, financial statements, and audit support schedules
Clear communicator with strong organization and the ability to manage deadlines across multiple stakeholders in a remote environment
Bonus: Experience in a public or pre-IPO technology company, familiarity with ASC 606 and ASC 842, CPA license, and exposure to close-management or BI tools
