Lead Engineer

Role Description The Lead Engineer role is a full-time, remote position responsible for driving the technical vision and implementation of core Somi AI products and infrastructure. Day-to-day tasks include designing and reviewing system architectures, writing high-quality production code, and ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across services and platforms. The Lead Engineer collaborates closely with product, research, and operations teams to translate requirements into technical roadmaps, break down work into deliverable milestones, and coordinate execution. This role also involves mentoring engineers, establishing best practices for code quality and DevOps, and leading incident response and performance optimization efforts. The Lead Engineer is expected to proactively identify technical risks and opportunities, contribute to long-term strategy, and help grow a strong, inclusive engineering culture.
Qualifications
Strong software engineering skills in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Python, TypeScript, Go, or similar), including experience building and maintaining production systems.
Experience with system and application architecture, including designing distributed systems, APIs, and data pipelines for scalability and robustness.
Proficiency with cloud platforms and DevOps practices (e.g., containers, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring and observability tools).
Background in or exposure to machine learning, AI platforms, or data-intensive applications, and comfort collaborating with research or data science teams.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects end-to-end, mentor other engineers, and set engineering standards and best practices.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; prior experience in a technical lead or staff-level role is highly beneficial.
